I have to imagine this guy is just looking for publicity!!!
Just another stick-N-(no)ball jaqoff trolling for enough responses to justify his miserable little existance in a cube at the local paper.
Scrape him off your shoe if it bothers you
I have to imagine this guy is just looking for publicity!!!
Yep. Who the hell has ever claimed that Lance is the greatest athlete in the world?
One might say that the Top Columnists Don’t Write for the Daily Herald…
If Walter Payton had trained on his bike his whole life he probably couldn’t have lasted one non-time trial stage with the last place finisher at Le Tour.
The reason? It takes a phenomenal VO2max to ride 4-5 hours at 27+ mph. Peyton was a great athlete but he had a sprinter’s physiology.
The writer knows so little about what makes an athlete great he has no credibility.
Is Armstrong the greatest athlete who ever lived? Probably not, but who cares?
His accomplishments speak for themselves.

He’s a dumbass for sure, but nowhere near as dumb as that one who bitched about how Lance could abandon such a beautiful woman as Kik.
Its just suburban chicagos local liberal/socialist paper, it makes for good fire starter in the winter.
Kind of hard to recognize any credibility in a journalist/writer that can’t spell:
“Put it this way: Williams could peddle a bicycle for a couple hours in the Tour de France but Armstrong couldn’t survive a single hit in the NFL.”
Lance doesn’t sell (peddle) bicycles, he rides (pedals) them.
FWIW, I don’t think Lance is the greatest athlete ever, either. He is, however, among the greatest ever in his chosen specialty (maybe second only to Merckx? but that is another debate altogether), certainly in the same league as MJ or Gretz were in their specialties.

How about one of the best endurance athletes? It so hard to compare a football/basketball player to a marathoner/cyclist. One of the best? One of the most accomplished athletes? I dont know how to categorize it, but its amazing what he has done.
Some nobody trying the cyclists aren’t athletes trick to try & drive traffic to his site.
This just in: Good journalists don’t write for the daily herald!
This guy is a moron - you cannot compare different sports against eachother as each has its own difficulties. Williams might be able to become a good cyclist, but win the TDF or even a stage - doubtful.
I think Williams is big enough to be two or three cyclists.
to add a little to this, i’m from arlington heights and have run up the hill payton trained on may a times. Compared to some of the rides i did last summer in colorado springs, i’d much rather run up that pathetic garbage dump.
I’m embarassed to have read the daily herald my whole life
morons suck
i sent him an email…

How does this make him “pay”?
Op-ed guys live for the “you don’t know what you’re talking about, you moron!” letters. Better yet, their bosses give them raises for getting more of them. You just contributed to his next positive job ranking. I can hear his boss now. “Good Job, you got 5,000 hate letters for that Lance piece. Can you do one again next year?”
Ignoring him is the best way to make him pay.
good point, thanks to my old school email i was able to unsend and hopefully they didn’t go through yet…
AHHHH
*"Wayne Gretzky was skinny enough in his prime to win the Tour de France. Dennis Rodman could have if it wouldn’t have bored him to death. Alex Rodriguez would have if there were more money in it. *
This isn’t personal on my part. A half-hour on a stationary bike is about my limit. I’d have trouble riding around France for three weeks in a Porsche unless it was chauffeur-driven."
If ignorance ever had a voice, then this is it. I think this guy is buds with the prick from USA Today (was it?) from last year that started bashing Armstrong’s athletic ability… What a piece of work…
I think I’m going to quit eating so I can get “skinny enough” to win the Tour next year. Anyone wanna challenge? I’m starting at 195lbs, so I have a long way to go. Maybe I’ll try this diet I’ve heard about lately - low carb… anyone else hear about this great diet? Sounds like a winner!
I talked with Gretzky about a half an hour ago and he’s going to start cutting weight to toe the line next year in the Tour. I think he said that he was going to be riding his neighbors Schwinn Tempo w/ HED aerobars in the prologue - but shifters on the downtubes…
This guy is a total nitwit. To think that this guy really believes that if people trained like Lance, they could win the tour. I mean, if anyone COULD train like Lance, which they probably couldn’t, and to think that some NFL running back could, is INSANE. I laugh at this guys intelligence. I blow my nose at him and pass gas in his general direction.
What really amazes me about these types of articles is that the guys never seem to even suspect that they don’t know what they’re talking about, despite easy analogies to things that they are familiar with.
Maybe it’s a side effect of doing multisport, but it now seems obvious to me that the difference between ‘elite’ and ‘simply good’ is staggering in any sport. These guys would have no problem harping on about how an elite NFL back is just at a completely different level than an average college back, but it just never dawns on them that the difference between an elite cyclist and even a very good cyclist could be just as significant. You’d think that the fact that there has basically been ONE guy in history who could play both football and another sport at the elite level would clue them in to how hard it is to transfer skill sets, but apparently not. (Bo - there have been others that have been 2-sport athletes, but usually they’re only ‘good’ at one or both)
This doesn’t even touch on the fact that ‘riding around france for a few hours’ is to the Tour as playing catch in the backyard is to the NFL…
I also find it odd (maybe lack of press/celebrity) that the same things don’t seem to get said about runners/marathoners. I seriously don’t think this guy would suggest that an NFLer could go out and do a world-class marathon, but somehow ‘riding a bike’ is just so incredibly easy that of course anyone could do it. Oh, well, no use getting upset about it, since it’ll no doubt keep happening.
