News that shocked no one: "Vaping may be bad for you"

So apparently the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating clusters of severe pulmonary cases that appear to be related to vaping.
Who could we have ever predicted that inhaling atomized propylene glycol or glycerin, plus various mystery components?

I suspect the other shoe will drop in 5-15 years as the long term effects start to manifest.

Yeah, heard about that on NPR a few days ago. Who could have guessed…

Another thing is that the worst cases seem to be vaping cartridges bought off the street from unknown sources. Why aren’t street drugs reliable?

Absolutely shocking.

Just the thought of super heating any liquid and inhaling the steam it is beyond stupid. I truly doubt the alveoli are designed for super heated gases.

In related news, Cigarette smoking may be bad for you. Stay tuned for breaking developments.

no not shocking.

One thing interesting about vaping is that it’s appealing to a cross-sensory pathway, in this way more like gum than a traditional smoke.

So many of the liquids are food flavoured: cereal, sour candy, banana, etc. If it’s allowing people to bypass/defer food with a flavour hit it’s going to be even harder to shake loose from the teenagers.

Hell, legally purchased vape juice is being sold on the street. This happened in my neighborhood, 18 y/o high schooler with an apparent penchant for entrepreneurship, was legally buying vape juice and selling it to underage kids from our high school.

My wife read the headline and my first thought was people sucking on those things all day long and how they most likely aren’t being cleaned and the air coming through was never hot enough to kill off the critters. So basically you are sucking on a stick of fungus and bacteria with some nice cherry flavoring.

What do you people with kids do to keep them off this shit? Every high school kid I’ve seen since I graduated 3 years ago is always sucking one of these things

Hell I don’t know. I don’t have kids. When I was that age we all smoked healthy shit like pot.

Not sure, we have to high schoolers and neither vape/smoke. In fact both have distanced themselves from friends who started vaping. Neither my wife or I use tobacco so our kids have never seen us use, that’s about the best reason I have why mine don’t.

True enough. At least we’ve never had doctors prescribing vaping to their patients like they’ve done and are doing for marijuana.

Maybe in state where recreational pot is still illegal, you can get a prescription for marijuana to stop vaping.

It sucks bad if this is true but I know two people who smoked cigarettes for years and used vapes to quit, once they had no more craving for smokes they also stopped vaping, so vaping does have some benefits, but yeah I notice a lot of young people vaping.

Exactly - our kids have friends that would kill them if they started vaping. Beyond that, we talk to them about how bad it is.

Our school system recently implemented a no tolerance policy on vaping. Getting caught is suspension or expulsion, depending on if the vape has THC. A varsity kid on my son’s cross country team got kicked off the team for vaping a few weeks ago.

There is push back - we’ll see if it is enough.
