News Flash! All IMLP lodging now taking waiting lists****

.

That’s not correct, in all cases. The place I am going for starts taking reservations on Wed.

Let me guess…At 1pm EST.

12:00 PM. I’d share, but last time I didn’t get booked until Jan.

A lot of places do book up this week, and then don’t open up waitlists until Jan. It varies, of course, and some things may have changed in the past couple of years. Expect to pay $200+/night, expect 4-5 night minimum, expect to call plenty of places…

On the birght side, when people start bailing out in April/May, people who go on the waitlist early are almost certain to have the opportunity to book. I got waitlisted at both Holiday Inn and Best Western in '04, and was offered rooms in both. Went with Holiday, should have held out for Best. Just preference.

Thanks. This will be my first trip there. I made the lottery for IMC and had a hell of time finding a place to stay so late in the ball game. Do you recommend a car rental while there?

I drive up from Boston, so I’m not the best person to ask, but I’d say yes. The village is walkable, but lots of restaurants and other things are probably worth driving to…especially for previewing the course.

Is there any camping? I’ve sat at my desk all day and am somehow down $497.50 so my enthusiasm for a $1000 stay in an average hotal is pretty low!

Mountain Brook Lodge in Willmington, on the bike course, 84bucks, fifteen mins away.
DONE!

Definitely there is camping - a KOA campground outside of Wilmington on the way into LP, and apparently elsewhere as I met some people from DC who came up to watch and register for next year that were camping near the Horsegrounds. Sux to be camping if it is as wet as it was up until Saturday though. You could also try one of the small motels in Wilmington. I stayed there last year and it was quite cheap, but clean and basic ($60/night, no minimum unless that has now changed). Even had free Internet access at one of the other motels across the street.
