so i’ve decided on new race wheels and would like some feedback on how to mount a magnet for a speedometer.
i’ve ordered a hed disc and hed3 front. how users mounting their magnets to the 3? do I need a whole new cycle computer (currently have older cateye 2 wireless)? please let me know.
I have the same set up on my bikes, a disc and a HED 3. The H3 is really far from the fork so you will have to cant the sender in alot to reach. I use a Mavic Wintech that I love because of its simplicity, but I had to go buy a $10 rare earth super magnet to get it to work. I think it is strong enough to suck in a car if it were to pass to close. I also really like wireless cadence. So what is the answer? A new Cateye wireless system Not cheap, but works great! 1 rear mounted sensor for both speed and cadence, easy to read and you can use some double sided tape to secure the magnet to your disc. I feel if we are spending all this money on aero forks and wheels, why ruin the effect with wires or a big sender.
Ditto on the rare earth magnets (radio shack). Worked fine for me. Don’t use the ceramic ones. Add a little epoxy, and your set. Otherwise if you don’t mind black ties you could get one of these: http://www.trisports.com/cacowhma.html but it looks fugly to me.
I went to the local hardware store and bought 4 magnets about 1/2" in diameter…cost…$1. I got 3 as spares. I use double sided tape and cant the sender in alittle. I can easily remove and move the magnet and have yet to ever loose one.
I got a rare earth magnet from Radio Shack and glued it using silicone caulk to the inside of the tire inflation indentation for the valve stem. This way it doesn’t affect the aerodynamics except for the speed pickup thing on the fork.
I place 2 in the same place, against the area that is forward of the stem (the direction that you ride) so that they are out of the way. Sorry I wasn’t more specific.
I don’t know where to get one, but there is a small magnet in a casing with a hole on the back that will fit a standard zip tie. I bought a pair of used HED 3s one and it came with the wheels. Someone has gotta know what I am writing about and can direct you as to where to get it.
