New wheels (1)

I want to buy new wheels for road riding. I am looking at Mavic Ksyrium SL or Campagnolo Euros. I currently have Rolfe Vector Pro’s. I like the wheels I have, but they are getting old and new wheels would be good. Does anyone have experience and/or opinions? Thanks. Don.

I would give the nod to the Mavic Ksyrium SL , low spoke count ( 3 grouped ) wheels will be harder to true . My buddy has a set of Mavic Ksyrium SL’s with maybe 3K miles on them still perfect .The rolfs I have with a small wiggle in them , that cant be trued with spoke tension.

If you can live with a low priced wheels , 28 -32 spoke Open pros 300-$450 a pair , less bling

The Mavic Ksyrium wheels get a lot of flack around here but of the 3 sets of wheels I’ve ridden in the past 3 years - they are the only one still true…I have no idea how fast they are.

They also seem quite expensive. I’d buy some heavy/cheap mavic open pro rims built to be very strong for training…lot cheaper I’d think…racing is another ball game - combo wheels also.

Thanks for the input on new wheels. I think I am going to get the Mavic Ksyriums with a new Lemond (2004) titanium bike.

Open pros, DT’s best, or a velocity Aerohead with an exotic hub (DT, American Classic, King, White industries) will be lighter and more durable (but not as stiff) for less $$$.

My American classic wheelset is ~100g lighter than a set of kysyrium SSL’s. Kudos on the bike choice. One of my fave’s
