New Walser aero bars

What do you think about these new Walser aero bars? Very interesting looking.

ooh!

I’m gonna say the look very expense, and on a one-to-ten scale, would rank about 0.5 for adjustability and about the same for any practical benefit.

.

I think you’ll need a HUGE head tube to use them unless you are Chris Boardman-like. I don’t know if the aero properties of those arm rests make sense to me. I think it might be better to have tall aero “stand offs” from the base bar that hold the cups individually.

Judging from the width of the extensions, I’d guess they are custom-made to fit each customer?

Looks like they didn’t do much market research before designing them. Just because you can make something, doesn’t mean you should!

Dave,
Here is another shot of them on a bike.

Well, if Batman ever gets into doing tris - he just found his aerobar.

Seriously though, looks terribly uncomfortable since the extension are direct inline with the arm pads. That doesn’t work as the arm rest needs to be somewhat lateral of the extension. I’m good with straight or a slight S bend, but many can’t handle that either.

those look like the long arm cradles Slowman has been requesting/playing around with for years. I always wondered what it would be like to have that much surface area supporting the arms.

However, I like the brake extensions to be as close to the same location as the hoods to my road bike (why I prefer 0 degree drop).

This reminds me, I need to go sign up for Interbike. Can’t wait to see new toys in person…

I would like to try them. Let me first remove a couple of ribs. Keau

they remind me of the first aerobars used by raam-racers who had extensions to the back from a chrono bar.

also a bit like the old cinelli (?) bar used by italian 100k squad in 1991.

only picture I could find:

.

Ok well I guess I should have said a huge head tube OR a 30 degree rise hybrid stem.

Those extensions look kinda wide… I’ve always been more comfy with my hands a LOT closer together.

Doesn’t the drop remind you of the blackwell concord bars?

They look a hell of a lot like the MDT integrated bars, which have been around for a while, even if no-one really buys them!

Xav

It’s too bad they’d force the rider to have an “arms angled down” position.

I’m also thinking that the UCI might not take kindly to them, especially after their “clarification” just before the Tour and them not liking arm rests that support more than just the elbow…

Pretty cool. Obviousley going to be a custom job. I’ve been thinking about those Oval Concept 911 customs and I wonder if these will price similar.

I have the highly adjustable 900s from Oval now with the S-bends but once you get them dialed in, you don’t change them much.

Andy Walser makes frames/bikes/etc almost exclusively for the fastest tt riders in the world. Thus, I suspect these bars will be among the fastest one can/could ‘buy’. I would hesitate to criticize anything with the Walser logo.

“Stuff on fast peoples’ bikes” is not always the same as “fast stuff”.
