New version: Specialized S-Works Shoes

Anyone know when these things will be available? I’ve been checking w/ Specialized, but it looks like it might be a little while. I’m really diggin’ the black!

They are out. I got a pair the other day and a pair of the new Trivents. They have likes and dislikes. They took off the heel pull tab and the rubberized toe. However, they added an replacable heel pad. They are lighter and the color is better than the last version. The velcro tab is also much better than the previous.

Hmm… haven’t seen them anywhere yet.

Note, I am hoping to get the New version in Black:

They are out and you’ll see them in stores in the coming months. There’s no delays that I know of, just a lot of demand.

I’ve been wearing them for a few months and absolutely love them. I even raced them at Vineman and they’re great.

Shoes are the best part of cycling. Just saying.

Shoes are the best part of cycling.

True, Tibbs. Very true.

It’s unfortunate that many triathletes don’t get this and after spending a small fortune on their bike, don’t realize the importance of the key contact point with the bike where all your power is transferred to the bike! Many go cheap and don’t bother with getting good fit and the proper set-up with the pedals.

I’m really diggin’ the black!

Indeed. Get some black socks and you can go with that Lance-look. Seriously. It’s a kinda anti-roadie look. I like it.

Are you saying my 7 year old black Sidis are now “cutting edge style”? I guess by the time I finally trade them in for some white shoes, that’ll be passe, huh?

Seriously, though…the thing is about those black BG S-Works shoes is that they’re so shiny…they remind me of “patent leather”.

Love the look of those shoes!!! I just totaled my rocket 7’s in a crash on Sunday and now I’m torn between these and the Shimano shoes that you bake for a “custom” fit. Thoughts???

Note to Cycling companies: I want to buy a pair of the New, black S-works shoes… somewhere around… well, right now! I might even have a few pair of black socks!

Steve, can you elaborate on your comments? I am considering new shoes and the S-works are one of which. Can you also speak to the issue of road shoe vs. tri shoe. I know that tri shoes are easier to get into but if your main races are HIM wouldn’t it be better to spend an extra 10 seconds getting into the shoe for a much better ride? Anyhow I have no expertise in the area and would appreciate your comments are any other who might have something constructive to say, thanks.

I did a detailed review on the current year model of the S-Works Road shoes. You can view that at the link below:

For anything other the sprint tri use, this is a great shoe - perhaps the best all-arsound cycling shoe, tri, road or otherwise on the market. I found that I can get in and out of the shoe very easily and quickly. True tri shoes may be fractionally faster, and really only an advantage if a few seconds here or there count. In races longer than an Olympic, I would value the comfort of the shoes more than whether or not it saves me 2 sec in transition. I note that top Long Distance triathletes such as Chris McCormack and Jordan Rapp are using the S-Works road shoe vs the tri specific Specialized Tri-Vent.

Hope this helps.

Don’t get the Shimano’s. They’re horrible. The nose caves in and you can’t get the mesh to bend back. IT will pinch your toes and drive you nuts. I hated these shoes and just turned them back in for a refund. They also don’t vent very well and your feet will get hot. I’m back to using my old reliable Tri Vents.

Compared the Specialized, the Shimano’s are pretty bad. They probably weigh twice as much, and they are very clunky. They are stiff as can be though, and the fit is much more “American” than Vittoria & Sidi’s. I rode the 300s for a couple of years, and did like them, its just that the Specialized are SOOOO much better: lighter (by far), better fit (glove-like), etc.

I guess opinions differ, but I have the Shimano R300’s after returning my Specializeds. They were terrible for my feet giving me hotspots and just plain uncomfortable IMO. The Shimanos are the best shoes I’ve had in a long time and I am getting ready to buy some R310’s.

The moral is try them on. What works for me doesn’t work for you.

Steve, any idea how these work for folks with high arches? I have DMTs that tend to cause discomfort on the tops of my feet because of my high arches. In addition, is the ‘fishing string’ replaceable?

I have the 2009 version and I LOVE them. They work so much better than my Sidi’s, which cost the same amount. The tightening system works wonderfully!

I am holding out for the new Gary Fishers

SWEEEEEET! : )

No one in their right mind would wear that. I mean, come on, it has THREE straps.

Now, if they made a ONE strap version…

I purchased a pair of the 2009 Specialized S-Works on Flecks recommendation. However, I wanted to try the mountain shoe version with my Eggbeater pedals on my Tri bike.

Sounds crazy, but I did and I have to say they rock. I raced in them two weeks ago and they are one pair of sweet ass shoes. Getting into them is like butter, they open up huge. After the mount line I got going and slipped my feet in. Pushed down on the BOA adjustment and gave it a few quick turns. Coming into T2 I pulled on each BOA and just pulled my foot out. They open smoothly with no effort.

I like the MTB version as I can run in them if I elect not to dismount barefoot in the event of hot or rough surfaces.

Both the road and MRB bike shoes have a similar design and I must say that I highly recommend them. Compared to the TriVents, these slippers are light years better.
