I have a set of carbon wheels coming this week and i’ve never ridden them before. Will i need a specific type of brake pad with these? It is a carbon braking surface, as I’ve already checked on that.

Yes. You will need carbon specific pads (There are a few varieties), and you cannot (Well, you can, but you shouldn’t) use the same pads on aluminum brake tracks. (By that I mean that if you have aluminum brake track wheels, you can’t use both wheelsets on the same bike without swapping out pads as well.)

Thanks for the reply. I assumed as much, but wanted to be sure.
Be careful riding with them at first, especially when descending hills. The braking power is slightly reduced and feels different than on alumnium rims. In the rain, you have to be extra careful and increase your stopping distance. Generally, the manufacturer will recommend what brake pads to use. Do not deviate from that list as some pads can increase braking temps too much.
Enjoy them!
I use the Swiss Stop Black Prince pads for carbon wheels and they work well. No residue and no noise…
Usually the necessary pads come with the rims if they have a carbon track.

That they do but when I got my Zipp’s and reynolds I found that my brake levers were spongy, so I investigated and got the Black Prince and my levers were back to normal. My wheel shows no wear or damage and the pads are excellent. Zipp and Reynolds accepts these pads to work with their wheels in case there would be any issues.
+2 on swisstop. I have used different pads (cork, Reynolds blue, crappy Chinese ones…) and nothing beats them. I have the Yellows and have not tried the newer prince though.
Carbon braking is not bad, they do not work as well on long descents and when wet but you get somewhat used to it.

X2 on the Black Prince… Although I have ordered a set of pads off Boyd wheels site and will ride em in the spring.
