New tires are as good as freshly laundered sheets

After getting flat after flat after flat on relatively low mileage Michelin Axial Pros, I replaced them with a pair of Vittoria Corsas. Tired of wearing out Conti GP3000s in just a couple of months - they’re comfy but soft. Could not bring myself to buy another pair of Michelins, though I’ve had good success with them other than this pair.

Is there anything nicer than a brand new pair of tires? Maybe a freshly cleaned and lubed chain, maybe. Same thing on a car, new tires are just killer. (trying to use that word a lot today)

But in my haste, I also ordered a pair of Jet TUFO tubular clinchers. Anyone ride on them? What do you think? Do you carry a spare or do you carry that sealant?

The corsas are a very nice ride but I have not got a lot of mileage out of them. Tufo’s despite the recent allegations of being “slow” are good as well. I have had good success riding with the sealant injected prior to getting a flat. Seems to work but maybe I have just been lucky.

re Tufo’s and sealant…

Better option: Slime liners (not the goo) I flat about once every 5000 miles, and the last one was from decayed rim tape.

I love GP 3000s.

What? What is “Slime liners”? Thx.

Slime liners are strips of some space-age material that you put between your tire and tube. Bulletproof. One set can last through dozens of tires and thousands of miles.

Forever GP3000 on my clinchers…
