New Tire Size? - Newbie Tire Size Help

This whole riding a bicycle fast thing is new to me. I bought a Trek 1500 back in April an now have just shy of 1400 miles on it. I think I could benefit by replacing the size (and type) of tire that are on it. But, I am not sure what will fit on the existing wheels. The current tires are 700x25’s and they are wearing like iron, but I am guessing that there are faster tires out there.

What should I be running on the wheels I have?

Yeah, yeah. I know fancy aero wheels blah, blah, blah. I have a wife that does not work and three kids. So, a budget is in effect.

Come on! You all know everything. Maybe I am asking the wrong question…

How narrow of a tire can I put on my existing wheel? I understand that the diameter is 700. Can I put a 700x23 on? How about narrower?

How about letting me know where a chart is that will tell me. Come on. I need to buy some tires and need help.

Yes and yes. A 23 will fit, a 19 will fit. I would go with a 23.

Thank you.

ditto the 23s.

a lot of folks here like the michelin prorace2s.
if you’re gonna keep putting that type of mileage up, you should also think about the michelin krylion carbons - they’ll last longer.
