Anyone, how many miles are recommended to put on new tires before racing them? Just picked up some Conti GP4000s from PBK and would like to use one in a sprint next month.
I usually put 25-40 miles on a pair pre-race. This is just to make sure the tire/tube is seated well (no potential pinch flat issues), and that the mold release on the tire’s surface has worn off.
Thanks!
10-15 miles just be carefully with tubular…Don’t want to pop one…

I like to take new tires out for at least an hour.
I figure this is enough time to work out any kinks and check if everything feels right.

And this goes for absolutely EVERY piece of equipment on your bike, and includes any adjustments, or mechanical work that’s been done too…ie. making sure any bolts that have been touched are torqued properly and so on.
Roger that, I try not to have a tune-up any closer than 3 weeks pre race. I’m coming up on two weeks out, so the tire (clincher) is the last new thing to try out. Thanks for the help.
Put it on now.
