New spin workout - NBA Intervals

So I got to the gym tonight for a 90 minute spin and was all jazzed to tune out on my ipod with a new mix I put together this week.

Unfortunatley, last night I had to make some room in my gym bag for my swim stuff and I took out my electronics bag.

So there I was, no Ipod, not HR monitor, just me and the spin bike. It was going to be a long night!

UNTIL, I started watching the Cavileers & Celtics on the TV above the bike I was on. I noticed a little rhythm and created a way to spin away the minutes that was entertaining and a lot of good work.

Pick a team. I chose the Celtics. They became Hills. The Cavs became speedy flats. Time outs and commercial breaks were easy recovery times.

So back and forthe they ran, with each steal, I went from climbing to racing the flats and back to climibing after the fast basket.

Before I knew it, my 90 minutes were up and I had just gotten a great interval workout in. The bonus is I got to see some sweet hoops too!

Cheers,

Dave

Lots of variations on this… you can pick a specific player, and when he’s going hard, you go hard; timeouts and bench time you just spin easy. In football, you can try going hard from the snap whenever the ball is in play, and then chill and spin between plays, etc.

I have always built up my best early season fitness level on the bike during March Madness watching college BB
.

Nice - I love it! Great game, too!

Great idea. Maybe those of us in the South could do it with Nascar. Just don’t do it for Bristol. You’d always be resting during cautions.
