New Speedplay pedal?

Speedplay has done them for the last year or two just for their sponsored teams for P-R.

That was mentioned two years ago and last year, too. I believe it’s a zero without the plastic body, and works with the regular zero cleat. The thinking was that it would shed mud better than a regular zero, I think.

Interesting, because I’ve never had trouble with a Speedplay pedal getting clogged with mud or snow, it’s the cleat that gets crammed full of crud.

would this stripped down pedal cut through the packed mud in the cleat?

It allows the mud to fall out of the cleat since the pedal does not cover the entire bottom of the cleat. This could have saved me as I tore my cleat from my shoe 15 minutes before the start of a road race on Saturday.

I think thats it. The smaller platform can dig out the mud that gets stuck in the cleat.
