New Specialized Shiv - water in the downtube!

the idea is clever and the data is outstanding so far. curious about the stack and reach on this bike. is it for the tall and short? long legs and short torso like the transition is?

anyone know much about the new geometry?

Thanks

don’t know much about the long and short. would this bike fit well someone long legs and short torso? I’m looking between this one or the trek speed concept. any suggestions? thanks.

This bike is built narrow/tall (though I still think the word “narrow” is stupid; sorry Dan). It fits similarly to the Transition, though the geometry is more logical and refined.

The Trek is built more in the “middle of the road.”

There’s no single answer to who or how it will fit. That being said, the bike was built with a geometry based off a rather large data set. But i’d recommend getting a fit first. But, yes, in theory, the bike would be ideally suited to someone with long legs and a short torso.

Jordan:

Curious about your thoughts on Shiv vs. Transition sizing.

My shop and I were looking at the S/R numbers for the Transition and the Shiv and it seems like the large Transition is a big medium or small large in the Shiv. In other words the two bikes don’t line up very well.

In my case, if I went medium to meet one of the S/R numbers, I’d have some “spacers” but if I went large, I’d be slammed to the headtube.

Thoughts?

Bob

Jordan–

Is there a document somewhere that explains the whole “narrow/tall” vs. “middle of the road?” I kinda get what you’re saying, but am still pretty vague.

Jordan, Looking at the guys on the Shiv at Kona, it seems they are fit as such and are comfortable being a bit further out over the front wheel than on other bikes, like the Cervelos. Camera angles are always odd, but it appears many have eyes at or even forward of the front axle. Meaning, to me, they are sized down quite a bit on the frame, but with longer stems. Again, that seems to be a different fit paradigm from the long/low frames where many are using short stems and eyes just behind the front axle. The head tube angle seems even more relaxed as well. Regardless, the geometry seems to work well in some pretty good positions.

Very cool. Thanks for the link!

I think this makes the bike look like it’s pregnant
