I there anything wrong with buying new running shoes the day before a race and wearing them in the race? I would be getting the same shoes, just a newer model.
If you don’t mind blisters all over your feet. Stick with your old shoes for the race and start wearing your new shoes right after the race.
10K.
The whole reason this comes up is that I procrastinated and have let my shoes get old. I’m talking last-year old. My feet are tender after running only five miles in them.
When’s the race? If its tomorrow, don’t bother for a 10K. If you can get a run or two in with them before the race I would go ahead and wear the new ones. I always buy the same shoe and now I don’t blister even in a new pair–but I usually don’t just go off right away on a long run. Limit the first couple runs to 45 mins, and make sure tehy are fitting.
I do. I do. They just have been the best shoes I’ve ever had and I think I’m having separation anxiety. We’ve shared so much together, our first half marathon, personal bests…
The race is on Sunday. Asphalt course with some concrete sidewalks.
Wear them from now until then and I bet they will get nicely worked in. Better yet, if it is raining at all go for a run in the rain with them on.
If I get them bronzed, they should last longer, right?
Yes, but then they would be more “motion control” than cushioned with the bronzing.
i am of the opinion that running shoes don’t wear in, they wear out, so the beest condition they’re ever going to be in is when they’re brand new. for marathon’s and IM’s I usually wear a new pair for two sessions around 6 miles a couple of weeks out and then leave them fresh until the big day. (I race in either Asics DS-trainer unless it is an IM or a concrete surface and i’ll use DS-trainers)
