New road bike: titanium or carbon?

I want to replace my low-end road bike. Looking at titanium and carbon bikes…more specifically, Litespeed Tuscany and Orbea Onix. Would appreciate any thoughts about one vs. the other. BTW, using it purely as a road bike, I have a P3 for tri’s. Thanks.

Go for the Litespeed with a carbon fork. Just like a Ti driver with a graphite shaft.

I would go for the Litespeed, for no other reason it will be easier to get serviced since they are made in the USA. That is if you live in the USA.

That would be great…if I could hit my driver
Thanks.

My Ping driver is like a grand piano with a stick in it, and I still can’t hit it.

The best possible deal you can get right now is the Litespeed Solano on Coloradocyclist.com:

It is basically a 2004 Tuscany design (way better the the 05) with a non-integrated headset. LS is going back to non-integrated headset on the 2006 models. You will never have to worry about paint chips or the bike being ever outdated. It is simply the best buy for the money if IT FITS YOU. Make sure that the geometry is correct above all.

Cheers

I have a Cervelo R2.5 that I really love…super light, stiff, yet it is very comfortable to ride (a very noticeable difference between it and my P2K over the same roads).

Spot

Personally - definitely go with the Tuscany. See Tom Demerley’s review on his site about the Tuscany - can’t go wrong for purely a road bike (except I really love my Vortex though)

Yea, it was because of Tom’s review that I started looking at the Tuscany.

Ti, no question
.

Ti is timeless. A friend of mine has the orange Orbea Orca and it’s cool now, but how about in three or four years? Just like the Trek Postal bikes seem kinda outdated now.

I’ve got an Orbea Orca last October and love it. Comfortable, plenty stiff for me and great for climbing. Orbea also has a lifetime warranty on their frames. But you really need to test ride the bikes and decide for yourself. Everbody’s built different and has different needs. That’s why there’s so many choices!

Does the carbon give a more comfortable ride than Ti? Or do I have to be on the bike for a few hours before I notice the difference in ride comfort?

I just picked a litespeed vortex over a madone 5.9 SL and specialized tarmac s-works

Go for the LS

Tom has good write-up about the Tuscany on his site www.bikesportmichigan.com . For a great all-around bike I’d get the Tuscany.

Did you mean “*Mephistopheles” *? And I’m just his lawyer

Nope - Meant Asmodeus. Graa’zt made me misspell it …

ORBEA. This is a great bike. It is very light and very stiff. I do not own one now, although I see one in my future. I have ridden my friend’s and it is spectacular. It is also pretty awesome looking. I think the ride is super smooth. This is not to say the Litespeed is not a great bike, but I would definitely get the Orbea. I think the real test would be test riding both bikes to see which material you like better. I think it’s all about CARBON. Either way you will have a sick bike.

Karesz,

Thanks for the heads up. I just picked up a Solano (the old Tuscany). I was looking for a good all round road geometry bike for under $2500 equiped with Ultegra 10 speed to go with my Saber.
