Any Interbike observers spotted the 2 new wheels Frank promised us ?
I think Tom already started a vaporware thread… ![]()
If I remember right, there were three different Renn discs there, including one that was silver. Sorry, I wish I had more info, but I was in a hurry when I passed that booth.
Renn did have a couple of new disc out. One was a new very light disc that is trying to compete with zipp at 980 grams. I did pick up this disc and being a zipp disc owner it was heavier then the zipp noticeable. They also had a disc that looked like white carbon but it wasnt it is actually some type of fiber glass that looks like white carbon. I believe the weight on it was around 1150. These weights are for 700c tub. They also said they were using a new hub and that the adjustments were going to be two 5mm hex at the end just like the zipp hubs use.
the material (texalium) we use on the new kaiser wheel is the same material some manufactures call “white” carbon. it weighs 1120 for a 700c tubular. the madeira weighs 980 grams for a 700c tubular and is an accurate weight.
thanks, frank
tooling and fixtures to produce at low cost are very expensive. still working on solutions. don’t hold your breath.
Frank, when will the lighter version be available and do you have a price in mind?
Frank,
are you producing a clincher 700c campy disc? if so what is the weight?
have you considered integrationg a powertap hub?
early to mid december in tubular only. the clincher (1060 grams) will be march. $650 retail.
yes, we have a 700c clincher campy right now in the 5-7-5 at 1200 grams. powertap is not possible without completely changing some tooling and all the fixtures. very expensive and time consuming.
frank
ill be there and yes you can use it if you like.
MADEIRA??? why madeira?
does it have anything to do with the portuguese paradise island? ![]()
yes, this wheel had it first outing at worlds 04 medeira portugal. we’ll have yours ready soon my friend.
frank
cool!!!
because i was thinking that you where manufacturing wheels out of wood
Madeira(word)=wood
i know, it was a really bad joke ![]()
but there are bamboo frames ![]()
So Frank, you are going to be at Florida. Maybe I can even meet you
After hearing about all of the incredible customer service stories we hear about you on slowtwitch, it would be awesome just to speak to you for a little. When I can afford a Renn disc, you can bet I’ll be knocking on your door. (I am not considering any other rear disc) That story about you trading your rear disc for a racer in the middle of the race is amazing. But then again, you have been enticing us with all of these rumors about a front wheel, and NO PICS. SHEESH, talk about cruel and unusual. I’m kidding, but keep up the absolutely incredble work.
There is no way that the dimple BS will survive to the madeira ATTACK ![]()
.
Hey Felix, I noticed that you ride a RENN wheel - are you happy with it?. Have been thinking about disks and RENN look like a good deal.
wood ATTACK!?!?
It’s been a while since the last time, LOL…
So Frank, enlighten me/us…
What makes the Kaiser better (aka - worth $100 more to buy) than the 575?
(other than the funky new color, of course - the weights are almost identical it seems)
The Madeira’s cost/benefit is obvious, since it is substantially lighter than the above, and at half the cost of the competition’s light discs, you should be selling a boatload of 'em this year (perhaps even one to me, if I can get Santa to get me one!)
Nice work. Us non-Trustifarians appreciate quality products at reasonable prices.
