Tin foil hat time: Having selected “both thread and post sharing” in the poll on the right, after reconsideration I would prefer to change my vote to “neither”. I don’t hide my identity on ST, and I use FB every once in a while, but I’m not a big fan of making data mining easier for all of the shady data mining outfits out there that are collecting information on every single facet of our daily lives. And FB is doing this in grand style these days. It creeps me out.
I would prefer to make them work a little harder for their money than simply to go onto FB and start drawing out information from somebody’s status update with a link to some lame comment I have made here. Or even brilliant comment.

I’ve always appreciated the fact that this feels a bit like a community and also assume that (although obviously public) my comments on ST are intended for the audience here and are presented in the context of the thread. I wouldn’t want every post or every thread to be re-tweeted or “liked” all over the internet and potentially out of context.
I’m fine with Social Media (my wife even makes her living on it), but there’s a place for it and this doesn’t seem like it’s the place.
i will make sure both herbert and jordan - each of who are more social media savvy than i - take note of this particular objection and see if we might do our best to navigate around it before we do anything.
i also note the wide disparity between the various points of view on this poll, which makes me hesitate to do anything unless we find a solution that almost everyone agrees is appropriate.
Yes this is really the only sight I care to go to and agree don’t make it easier for crooks to get out info. As it is we all got PM’ed by Vivian and her half twit sister ;0)
