Does anyone know if the course will be set up on Saturday and if the beach is open for swimming on Saturday?
All I know is that the water is pretty choppy. Enjoy!
A bunch of guys/girls in the local Tri group swam the course it this past Saturday. The group put on a clinic for the newer people with kayaks boats and other saftey precautions. As far as it being open I am not sure but as far as I know the lake is always open for swimming. If you want to swim in the lake to get a feel for it there is another spot adjacent to the swim start that the locals swim laps around a strecth of pilings that is just under a half a mile long for one lap.
Thanks,
any idea what the water temp has been?
I have heard something like 65-68 … so i think it will be pretty comfy for a swim by race time, if not warm with full suits.
Don’t expect to be able to see crapola in that lake. I was down around the swim area this weekend and the water was clear as mud! It has been really windy around here of late so that probably has something to do with how muddy the water is right now. Definitely expect the worst and hope for the best! Also definitely make sure you can breath on your right side as there’s a 99% chance the waves are going to be blowing from the north towards the shore so if you’re a left side breather you may get hammered.

We had a thermometer in the water at the course on Saturday and it was 67. It has gone up very fast. 3 weeks ago it was in the high 50’s.

Actually it was pretty clear (for the lake) up until we had a lot of rain recently. I would not say it is muddy. When I was swimming in it a couple of days ago I could see my arms as they stroked through the water in front of me.
I’m guessing that because you said you could see your arms you couldn’t see much further? I wouldn’t call that clear.
That is clear for Louisiana. Some swims you can’t see your hands and arms.
So does this mean that Bullsharks and Alligators won’t be swarming the swim… thinking Buffet?
