I was not terribly excited about the new Raconteurs album but after getting my vinyl copy by way of Third Man Records “Vault” subscription service I have to say it’s fantastic…very pleasantly surprised. Ran it through 2x yesterday and am looking forward to throwing it back on later today at a non trivial volume level.

This year I think I picked up:

Ghost: Prequelle
21 Pilots: Trench
Muse: Simulation Theory
Amon Amarth: Berserker

The last three were all decent but didn’t really break any new ground as far as albums go. They each have a bunch of songs that fill out a concert setlist or a smart phone playlist a little more, but nothing amazing.

While Prequelle is probably not as good as Ghosts last two albums, it was a good artistic move forward, has a few standout songs, and leaves the fans yearning for the next album.

I like it.

My only other experience with her is she was on “Hot Ones”. I just figured she was random new pop star that I was too old to get into. Still might be the case but I will say the song above is not as generically popish as I would have otherwise assumed it would be.

I’m a fan of Billie Eilish now.

Wish You Were Gay offended me deep in my core, so now I dislike everything she does. But most of her singles seem to do better in the UK and Canada than in the US.

I’ve only just learned about her in the last few weeks, so haven’t listened to a lot of her stuff yet. Not that she has that much yet, she’s young. But generally I give artists a pretty wide berth for their art, and young artists who may not yet have the benefit of wisdom gained through experience get a wider leeway yet.

But this particular track has a pretty cool vibe. I’m more into the sounds than the lyrics anyway. Probably a byproduct of too much 90’s shoegazer music and Nirvana…
