"When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the U.S., a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the valiant men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitment to country, team and their families back home.
"‘Act of Valor’ uses active duty U.S. Navy Seals (sic) as actors. The characters they play are fictional, but the weapons and tactics used are real.
“‘Act of Valor’ hits theaters February 17, 2012.”
A recruiting tool to increase the numbers of BUD/S applicants, to be sure, but what happened to the “silent professionals?”
dont need this movie to recruit. they now have a long long line of candidates waiting to go BUDS…In San Diego, I hear it a 12 to 18 month waiting list…
I am thinking they are using them as actors as they used active duty in other movies such as BHD. They wont have starring roles. Its not uncommon.
And as was stated the SpecOpscommunity has a line waiting at the front door. Their REAL exploits do all of the recruiting they need. A movie isnt nearly enough motivation to make it through such schools and if anything causes those that can make it and want it for the right reasons to have to wait in line
Active duty military members are increasingly used to guarantee some level of authenticity in the final product. I have wondered if it relates to the number of war veterans we now have walking among us in our daily lives. If you saw Generation Kill on HBO, a number of those actors were the actual marines from the unit portrayed in the seris. Rudy Reyes was the primary consultant from the unit and they found he was able to portray the content better than the hired actor so he was tapped to star, and the snowball rolled from there.
