Ok, to make a really long story short. I got a new job 6 months ago and don’t have access to the pool I used to swim at. The old pool was a 25 yd, run of the mill YMCA type. With the new job I have been swimming at an outdoor 50 meter pool. I’m sure it’s just mental, but I feel I’m getting a better workout here, less flip turns, more focusing on form, breathing, rhythm. I love it! Anybody else have this happen to them?
Yes, I refuse to swim in 25 yd pools b/c first all the turning drives me nuts but also b/c I feel like I am not getting as good a workout.
For one, you are doing less distance. If your workout calls for 2700, you will swim farther in a 50m pool then a 25yd pool.
Also, with the less turning I feel like you are swimming more and have more time to focus on your stroke/form/etc
50M pools rock you lucky fool. If I had one I could swim in I might actually swim more often.
thanks for making me really jealous - my job came with a 12 yard pool. It’s a 40 second walk up the hill, so I can’t complain there and it’s free. I’ve swum tethered and SHORT course in it. It works but it’s not too fun. Did I also mention, it’s about 85 degrees.
I work at a 50m pool over the summers, the problem is that it is always set up for short course (25y). I think that in the two summers of working there and the 4.5 years and bazillion miles i have swam in the pool, i have only swum long course like 3 or 4 times.
p.s. swum/swam…which is correct?

swought
swimmed, swummed, swammed
.
Me too!
I just moved for a new job and switched from 25y to 50m (not outdoors, though) and long course definitely places a premium on form. On the downside I feel like I’m swimming slower; I looked up the conversions from short course to long course and I’m swimming slower than my equivalent time - this happen to anyone?
