why does it seem that so many courses are mis-measured?
-
take it for what is is worth, but a pro cyclist friend claims this year’s TDF is the dirtiest of the last 3
New to slowtwitch? Yes.
New to trolling? NOPE!!!

Because most courses are not measured, or if they are with someones car, bike, dead reckoning, ect. And most courses have to conform to some geographical limitations, but RD’s still like to put them into the standard categories like Olympic, 70.3, 140.6. I think that is just a marketing thing, and since there is no sanctioning course measurment wing of any triathlon org., they can all get away with it…

It is worth nothing…
I would that thought KnowitALL would not have graced my post with a response…oh wait, he was reduced to name calling.
My point on course meausrement is that between GPS and Laser technology, course distances should be spot on.
You expect accurate courses and a t-shirt for $550?

ANd my point was that most RD’s don’t use this stuff, and if they do, their course works better with an odd distance, but they wish to keep it in the pigeonholed distances that our sport has set up for itself…For some reason it just does not look as clean to them to say come to my 1.46k swim, 42.3k bike, a 9.46 run…Personally I would love it if they advertised the exact distances, then we would not have to get on here post race and try and figure out what they really were…
#2…maybe he read this!
.
+1… Call a race a “Sprint” or “Olympic” distance so the person glancing at the poster gets an idea of what’s being put on. Put the actual course distances on the poster so that the person who stops and looks more closely can have accurate info.
I know our tri association says they need to be within 3%, that is a ton…
welcome, enjoy the RIDE!
No 2 is a ridiculous statement, and No 1 has been discussed often enough. As a new post-er, the search function is your friend.
I don’t care what the distance is a long as you tell me. Comparing PRs from one course to another is meaningless, so just tell me what it will be and I’ll still sign up. I’ve done a few races where they tried to hit the exact distances and they did some unsafe things to add on the extra little chunks to make it perfect. In many cases the race is safer for being 39 kilometers rather than exactly 40. In some cases the RD just does not care and the consumer accepts that by signing up anyway.
