Can anyone recommend a hard case that they use and are happy with?
My wife and I have used hard travel cases for 4 years ever since a carbon race wheel was crushed in a soft travel bag. These now require replacing as 4 years of use has seen the airlines smash them to the point of being unusable. i.e. all closing catches and handles broken off, corners dented, and the box is warped so bad it is difficult to close.
I’m thinking of buying a ‘clam’ style case since these appear to be (a) lightest hard cases, and (b) offer reasonable protection with foam padding to keep things in place and absorb some of the knocks.
Btw I’m not interested in buying a soft bag. Here is a pick of the damage done to my bike this weekend on route to Galveston Half IM. The steerer cap was smashed during transit, while inside of my case, and yes I did use foam around my bike in the case. I also have no desire to try and avoid bike travel fee’s using a small soft bag, but would rather have a box that protects my bike when travelling so I can be confident it will arrive at the destination undamaged.
