it’s great that there is another race in AZ but to have it the week before a race that has been around for a year seems a bit underhanded. It looks like a F*ck you to 3D instead of trying to find a date that might enable athletes to do both races.
Can’t wait! It will be my very first half ironman. Hope I’m ready! Where do you think the course is going to be? 56 miles of biking! Yee hah

No shit!! Is this the heavily rumored IM Arizona and it’s a only a 1/2?! I thought they were looking at a full IM April? The 3d race kicks ass.
Holy Cow! $165 for early registration for an unproven race in a state where just about all triathlons cost less than $100 (maybe all triathlons).
As a long time lurker, but new poster that lived in Phoenix for many years and enjoys doing events in Az. This really does suck! You’ve gotta wonder if someone is putting them up to this. They also have an Olympic distance event within a week or two of 3D’s Tempe International on May 2nd (which although somewhat messed up last year was still a decent race – from my perspective). I will be doing the 3D event on May 2nd again and was planning on doing the Cactus Challenge but why not schedule the events so they can coexist? It would be interesting to hear from the Red Rock people on how they selected this date?

Misposted earlier info – actually tucsonracing.com is putting on the other Olympic distance event on May 23rd. Same question applies though to Red Rock on the choice of the Half IM date.

Quick note… this is not an IMNA event, this is a Red Rock Company production. The reason for the date is that between AZ Cardinal and ASU Football and other Tempe events beside Tri, this is the only date available.
We are aware of other races near this date, however there is a demand for USAT Sanctioned events in Tempe and also a race that has qualifying slots. This is not the race that is replacing the rumored IMNA full Ironman. This is a totally separate event.

Maybe 3D has burned too many bridges? Or had too many inaccurate course? Or didn’t pay their pro athletes? Or maybe they messed up timing too many times? Or maybe USAT made the whole thing up? Or maybe it is a whole conspiracy theory against 3D, this whole time the whole racing community is out to get 3D and all these allegations are just rumors so hopefully they will stop putting on races? I highly doubt the last one.
Good luck with this race. AZ is long over due for a big time event. Hopefully IMNA does pull through for April.
I’m not going to be able to be at this race, but if the rumors are true and IMNA does come with a full…I’ll see you in the spring.
