New Giro Aero Helmet?

Any word on release date?

A pipe dream. I’m glad I went with my Syton a year ago. I was going to get the Giro, but they have continually been putting off the date.

Any word on release date?
The twelfth of never.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, that’s funny…Aw man, ya kill me…

Truth be told the thing is coming out in September (As of a communication yesterday) but as s 2008 model with 2008 colors. So, if you have a white, blue, or carbon one on order, who knows what color you’re going to get…

Bob

Hopefully it will actually come out while we’re still young enough to enjoy it. The Euro version is now legal for USAC time trials, but I understand it’s still illegal with USAT.

Ric

Actually they’ve posted on their website that it’s legal IIRC
.

I know someone who raced with it recently…I don’t think anyone knows that it can’t be used…no one said anything about helmets or checked them for that matter.

That’s great if it’s now legal. Was a drag when Jennifer Harrison got DQ’d at St. Anthony’s for wearing one.

Ric

Don’t know when this went into affect, but she should have bitched and complained and screamed bloody murder

.

If I’m correct, the helmet in the notice you attached is not the Euro version, but the US certified version. Does anyone know if the Euro certified version of the Advantage is USAT legal?

Ric

SO the Giro Advantage 2 that is sold in Europe is different the then Giro Advantage 2 being sold in the united states?

She definitely should have complained. I have one of these helmets, and it has a US CPSC sticker, so I can’t see how it wouldn’t be legal.

A guy on my local rides has one and said that there are a small amount that have been made and passed CPSC standards, however, producing the helmet on a mass scale, he thought, was the issue.

Bob

The Giro Advantage 2 in the U.S. is the Giro Advantage in Europe.

the list was obviously put together knowing that giro fully intends to, eventually, offer a us certified advantage. it’s doubtful that a certified one was available in april at st anthony’s. the helmets on the illegal list are ones that the manufacturers are not even trying to certify. until giro offers a certified advantage for sale in the us, they are still illegal. even when the certified ones come readily available the euro ones will remain illegal.

The Euro ones I’ve seen on several people do not have the CPSC certification. IIRC, CPSC is the US certification not the Euro certification, not sure what the initials are. The Euro certified only helmets are legal for USAC races, but it appears from the posts here are indeed still illegal for USAT.

Ric

I just looked at the sticker in mine again, and it specifically says it complies with **US **CPSC, and then has all the pertinent info related to that.

Then it is “legal” to race with that one…

I just called Trisports.com yesterday and they told me that it might not get released until next year. Apparently some hold-up with production. I ordered the LG rocket instead.

Just to add to this thread, at the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon, I personally saw the head ref vigilantly inspecting the helmets of all the pros and as many of the elite amateur athletes as he could find. Giro Advantage IIs with the CPSC sticker were allowed, while those lacking the sticker were not. Someone who used a Bell Meteor II was DQ’d AFTER the race, as was one of the top elite amateurs who was DQ’d for his helmet just after leaving T2. Several of the pros had the US legal Advantage IIs, but interestingly Bruno Pais, who finished 2nd and had the 2nd fastest bike split, just used a “normal” helmet with packing tape over the vents in the front.
