This little thing is useful and cool and the new Garmin iPhone app is .99 cents in the iPhone App Store.

If only it actually did something… sigh.

The author that wrote the article should have done some actual research outside of their cubical, with statements like “Garmin isn’t known for its fitness products, but it does offer some.”
.

As a new owner of both a 310xt and an iPhone 4S I suggest that the gadget might be fun to play with, but not nearly as useful as other options already out there.

Don’t own a Garmin watch and DO own a smartphone? Go for it! Otherwise I suggest you just keep using your Forerunner or Edge device. The phones just don’t have the battery life that the dedicated devices do.

Have been using my Samsung Galaxy to track my rides and runs, but have found it completely inaccurate. However it does make me look good by adding a good 15% distance to my runs. Hoping for a Garmin 305 for Xmas. Price is bearable, compared to the newer models. But I would love to get the new 910xt as shown here http://www.everything-triathlon.com/triathlon-electronics.html

Maybe they should have considered acquiring Wahoo fitness. Would have bootstrapped Garmin in a hurry and got them some good tech/guys instantly.

It’s probably the type of thing you could sell someone in a running specialty shop if they wanted to slowly get into the gps/hr info without dropping mad loot on a 305/310/210/etc/etc. most people that i start this conversation with, i generally first ask them if they have a smartphone/iphone with gps, and if they currently run with it. if the answer is yes, then you can pitch this idea to them as a graduation from just using mapmyrun or similar gps based apps to adding a HR strap, or foot pod, or if they get a bike, a cadence/speed sensor.

and i agree that if you already have a watch that does all this stuff, it’s not worth it to get the adapter.
