So riders will have a little motor in the bottom bracket area…are they going to fill the entire fram with a gasoline baldder?
Is this what it’s really come down to?
I know it sounds far fetched, but you would not believe what some people will do to ‘win’.
I come from a competitive 3 event water skiing background…slalom will never be the same. Several years ago a dentist who ows his own custom ski pit put a retractable buoy system in controlled by remote. He is in his early 50 and was breaking WORLD records. He hosted a tournament with the best short line skiers in the world and they can tell the difference of a foot. They swore the buoys were moving out during their run. A USA Water Ski official checked and found an elaborate system to shorten up the course when the dentist made his runs.
Uh…it’s almost unbelievable. Will try and find a link to the story…it’s unreal. And this guy was an amateur enthusiast.
certainly better for your health than blood doping
unless the rest of the peloton find out and decide to kick your ass.

Only type of “motorized” advantage I have ever seen. I love it when they come to the window and talk while the car is moving down the road. Or the mechanic leaning out the window adjusting the rear caliper over 200 yds at 40 mph.
When I saw this I immediately thought how easy it could be make this work on the P4 disguised as a ‘tool box’.

I’ve been giving this a lot of thought (don’t know why). It seems that you could place an electric servo motor in the seat or downtube that would interface with the crank spindle and give a 10-20 watt assist from a hidden battery (or stealthily disguised as a water bottle).
It seems as though it would have to be molded in to the frame when constructed.

I gotta get me one of those for the ascent up Richter Pass and Yellow Lake at IMC ![]()
Watch the Youtube of it in action. It’s loud as hell and you have to drill your frame to mount it.
You could easily fit a 100W brushless DC motor and a LiPo battery pack inside a Jet Disk wheel with a hub modification.
If you added regen (i.e. charging during descent) you could, in effect, flatten out hilly courses.
I’m diggin’ it. There’s hope for my bike leg yet. Gotta go work on a…umm…“project” in the garage, bye. ![]()

I forget, are you from Wisconsin? I ask b/c the dentist is from Dousman, WI, not too far from me. This story is still very well known in these parts. My office manager used to ski in the same circuits with this guy. Thought there was something fishy, but, could never prove it. Was stunned when the elaborate scheme was revealed. They still talk about this all the time.
A fellow 3 event-er. That makes 10 remaining in the world. Ah the good ole days. Can you even buy a trick ski anymore?
This would just be dumb at the professional level. way easier to detect a motor in a bike than epo in the body.
