New Finish Chute Policy for all Ironman and Ironman 70.3

Well, it’s about time…no more dodging grandmothers…

These new owners must be ST members.

Finally! Common sense comes to the finish chute. If you want your kids to cross the line with you, wait until they’re old enough, and let them register and complete the event!

Automatic DQ! I like that one.

it’s about time! long overdue, but this is going to really stir up a hornet’s nest. i can hear the whining already.

This is really bad news, Dan made lots of money off those threads about family and pet finishes…

It’s about time. They finally got it right.

Not too surprising since WTC had this policy in effect at IMLOU this past year. Wasn’t this just an NA Sports thing? Since they are no more isn’t this just a switch to the WTC policy at what were NA sports races?

Regardless, this seems like a good move. It was really nice to not have to deal with any of that crap at IMLOU finish last year.

There is no way they can or will enforce this rule. However there is one way they can make everyone “obey” the rule though…
No finishers medal and Tshirt for people crossing the finish line with an entourage!

I know they have to say something sensible but don’t give me that crap about safety. People aren’t speeding across that finish line at 20 mph. It’s all about people being douches and taking their time across the finish.

“Friends and family members will no longer be permitted…”

Where does that leave Fido? There seems to be some gray area here regarding dogs. This could really cause some confusion.

there’s also no restrictions on colleagues, co-workers, neighbors, or enemies. Still lots of potential for the group finish!!

The dog’s good to go as long as he is not your friend and has his teeth firmly clamped on your calf when crossing the line.

Dr Tommy was complaining to me that his dog, who is also his running partner, with whom he logs countless miles was not able to join him across the line the IMCDA finish on account of the dog being unable to register himself in the friends and family chute. Since Tommy was winning by a country mile, there was no safety concern (then again, the dog could have tripped Tom up and changed the outcome of the race).

Anyway, it sounds like with the new policy, Dr. Tommy with dog are allowed in, but Mr 10.xx with family/friends/grandmother entrourage are out…seems like humans are being discriminated in favour of dogs. In fairness, it is about time that dogs get the upper hand…they don’t whine and complain like humans do!

let me preface this by saying I’ve never done an IM or have plans to do one in the forseeable future…

Does your kid, wife, mom, etc DO the training it takes? If no, they shouldn’t bask in the glory of crossing the finishline, plain and simple. Sure they put up with your crazy hobby, but thats their choice.

Plain and simple, if you want to cross the line, DO THE TRAINING and RACE.

Dev,

Any dog owner knows that dogs have had the upper hand on Man for a very long time. We feed them house them walk them play with them pick up their… you get the picture.

It makes qualifying for Kona easier since you can just pay a bunch of local kids $20 each to cross the line with everyone faster than you in your AG.

I wonder how well this rule will stand up in Kona.
can you imagine a Pro coming in top 3 only to be DQ’d because their wife/husband/whomever jumped in with them at the finish?

I like your style

What an absurd statement. Enforcement is quite easy. You cross the finish line accompanied by a non-participant, you get DQ’d. Seems pretty straightforward. Oh, and the DQ pretty much means you don’t get the medal or t-shirt.

I’m sensing a business opportunity. No Kona lottery, more of an auction for those who are close but can’t quite break through…
