I’m really struggling to get upset about this. I think if anyone actually reads the report, instead of just reading an editorial about the report, it’s hard to find much wrong with it.

I really don’t get the issue? There has been 7 million applications for background checks to buy guns. There have been bombings and killings in the name of the anti-abortion. There was an arrest of several guys planning to assasinate Obama because he is black. The KKK is founded on white/christian supremacy. Radical right wing groups are going bonkers over Obama’s election. DHS would be stupid not to pay attention to the increase in risk. Domestic terrorism is their job.

I think the increase of the number of permits is what is concerning. That is a HUGE jump.

I understand why it raised some eyebrows on the right, but let’s not pretend that pro-choice activists have the same track record of violence as their counterparts. And again, given the legislation we’re likely to see (and not see) over the next few years, I think it’s reasonable to expect those tasked with the job to keep an eye pointed in the right direction, provided that no-one’s civil rights are violated at any time, in any manner.
When the memo announcing that left wing eco-terrorists are no longer to be considered extremists is issued, I’ll start to worry. Untill then, put me down with slowguy in the unimpressed column.

With a President in the White House that is seen as a threat to gun owners and anti-abortionists it only makes sense to be concerned about some groups becoming more radical. Obama is going to piss of a large part of the country and it might be just enough to push people over to taking action who might not have previously. For the racist groups, it is even more of a reason to freak out. A black man running the country is an absolute horror to them. The KKK websites are seeing record increases in traffic and membership. Remember they don’t just hate blacks, they also hate Jews, homosexuals, anyone who isn’t a pure Christian. Anti-abortionists have killed doctors, bombed clinics and the Olympics. This didn’t happen when a Republican Christian was in office.
Ignoring this would be foolish for anyone coming into office. Just like eco-terrorists were on the watch list, so are radical right groups.
