New Car - Want Good Headroom AND Good Mileage

I’m 6’2" with a long torso, and in most cars, I have to recline too far for comfort.

Prius: Great mileage/bad headroom.
F-150: Bad mileage/great headroom

I’ve sat in Honda Fit, and it is looking like the best option. Are there any others the collective would recommend?

Fit is a great option, Mini Cooper is a great option. Scions may work for you too.

yes i know the mini cooper seems tiny but give it a try.

I have plenty of room in the Honda Fit. It also holds two bikes in the interior.

I really want a Fit.

Did you spring for the Sport Nav model? If so, was it worth it?

I am 6’1" and have a fit…great little car. I also have a Scion XB…Love that little car.

I get about 30 in the fit,and 33 in the Scion…

Check out the new Kia that looks like XB!

Which do you like better - Fit or XB?

X2 on the Cooper. One one trip I fit two people, two bikes, and a weeks luggage all in there. And it was perfectly comfortable. And the bikes were in the car, not on the roof or in a rack.

I like the fit cause it drives more like a car. But I like the XB because it holds a ton of stuff, can get my bike in the back with just taking the fron wheel off and it is still upright. I like that long flat roof of the XB to, a bike rack fits nicely on it, great for the LONGBOARD…I have 93,000 miles on my XB, no problems at all!

Then newer XB’s ( i have an 05) have a bigger engine and do have a smoother ride!

I love my Element. Gas milage in the mid to upper 20s, lots of head room and leg room, fit all kinds of stuff in the back and the rubber/plastic matts mean I can make a mess and not feel bad about it. I’m short so I can do a complete deck change in the back comfortably. Drives great! I’ll drive this thing until it falls apart, probably 50 years from now.

I like the element too! That is a nice vehicle…almost got one of those a few times!

upper 20s for mileage isn’t cool anymore though =)

30s or go home!

We have an element as well - but if you are looking for better than 30mpg highway - pretty doubtful - I have squeaked that a few times under ideal conditions, but usually 28-29 is more normal.

That said - two vehicles that worked for me when I was looking around - Audi A3 and Volvo C30. I am 6’2" - long leg and arm. The C30 was probably the BEST fitting vehicle I have been in in a long time - they claim 28 mpg, and usually I can get +1-2 over the EPA listing unless I am pushing the vehicle. The A3 is an honest 30+ vehicle.

Pricier, but you didn’t state your range.

For an SUV, it is damn good!

It also scores very high on safety ratings.

Report.

The A3 is an honest 30mpg vehicle but it requires premium, so you have to adjust for that =)

valid point - I have a tt and have gotten used to that - so I tend to forget about it - but yes - I wouldn’t go back to a car that requires premium.

Did you spring for the Sport Nav model? If so, was it worth it?
Yep, but it was for Mrs. Fatmouse. Having ridden in several co-workers non-sport models, I am exceptionally glad that we got the Sport version. The Nav is ok for a factory installed system. Hopefully, it will get upgrades over time.

Right, 30mpg or better is idea. Or 40. Or 50. Electric?

Budget? I guess the most for the least works for us. I think under 25K is ready to go. Over that needs a pretty strong argument.

Though again - you would have to consider fuel cost - what about the Jetta TDI - especially the wagon?

Subaru Outback - great mileage, more than enough headroom. I love mine.
Or Subaru Forrestor - the new ones are nice looking and offer even higher clearance for your cranium.
