New Caliente is here - please help with position

Just got my new bike, mad the first 100 miles, changed the initial position slightly (lower saddle, neutral seatpost instead of set back one in order to shorten the reach). Please comment/help with the position. My first idea would be to further shorten the cockpit by putting the handles back about 3-4 cm - correct?

I know nothing about position, but that sure is a pretty bike.

A quick look with a protractor has the knee angle near 150* so you might think about raising the saddle ever so slightly. The hip angle is near 90, but would improve with raising the saddle just a tiny amount. The shoulder angle looks like it is in th 97* range so you are right about needing a shorter reach.

I assume this setup will be used all the way up to IM distance? You may want the camera just a little higher next time to reduce distortion.

Reach looks fine. Be easier to see if your head was positioned as would be when riding while looking not to run off the road.

Leg looks too extended, reaching for bottom of the stroke.

What distance events? Some want a more relaxed, upright position for IM events, lower position for shorter rides.

Second Position - reach slightly shorter - saddle slightly higher:

Thanks so much for you help and yes - I want one position from short timetrials (10km which serve as a fast training mainly) to Ironman. My focus is clearly on Ironman distances and/or up.

Again, very rough estimations with a protractor, but here’s what I see. I’d like to hear from some of the more experienced people on this forum.

Hip and shoulder both look to be around 90*.
Saddle may be a little too high, looks like almost 160*. Is your heel lifted because you can’t get it down any farther? I like to ride with the saddle pretty high, but you might be too high here.

Not sure about hand placement, you are probably within what most people would call OK, but I like to get my hands just a little higher.

Third position - slightly lower saddle - same shorter reach:

Thanks so much … the third position is the first this starts to feel right … thats good …

I’d personally go back to position two and remove a spacer from under the stem to get my shoulders a bit lower.

Adal,

Unless you ride with your toes and forefoot almost straight down (which would be quite unuusual), as far as I can see from your photo, your saddle is still far too high even in position 3. It appears possibly several centimeters too high. Have you measured and checked your seat height by any of the commonly accepted seat height calculations?

Your upper body looks pretty good in position 3 (if you feel comfortable).
