New Boston registration

How far does everyone think it will go under the new “wave” registration?

First wave (20’ or better) opened on Monday. Second wave (10’+) opened today. Third wave (5’+) opens on Friday.

Will it make it to sub-5’ qualifiers? I’ll be interested to see if it closes before then, as the sub-5’ crowd will be gone next year.

My prediction is that it will reach about 90% capacity before the sub-5’ wave opens, so general qualifiers will still have a chance to get in - though a highly limited one.

I’m sure they’ve done an analysis based on past qualification times that there would be spots left for the sub 5’ folks … or at least that’s what I would hope  I think that only on ST would it not make it past the first round.

All I have to say is, I’ve signed up for an Ironman in under 5 minutes of registration opening. I hope those skills don’t leave me when it’s time to register for Boston. I ain’t going to get any faster at my advance age

It’s not how fast you are with the computer, but how fast you are on your feet. Once your registration window has closed, they rank everyone who registered in that window based on how much they beat their BQ time by, and then let the ones who beat their BQ time by the most in first.

FWIW, (obligatory proud spouse drive-by) my wife is in and confirmed.

I registered right at 10AM and my submission ID is #2005592, so perhaps number 5592? Given how the number of potential racers grows exponentially with closeness to the qualifying time, that makes me wonder if even the sub 5 minute racers will get in. My time is 19min and 11s below the limit and I have yet to be confirmed. Anyone else who registered today been confirmed?

Well this sucks worse
.

My wife registered Monday @ 11:30 and her submission # was 2002978. Her entry was confirmed 4.5 hours later.

I also registered at 10AM EST and haven’t confirmed yet either. The website says that if you got a confirmation number you’re in pending the qualification time verification so I’m assuming I’m in but still hoping for the best.

My number was 2004751.

You should get an email right when you submit your registration with the subject: Your Boston Marathon entry has been received

When you are in, you will get a 2nd email with the subject: Boston Marathon Entry Confirmation that says:

This is to notify you that your entry into the 116th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 16, 2012 has been accepted, provided that the information you submitted is accurate. blah blah

At Boston in April BAA said they thought people with 2-3 min buffer would be fine. I’m sitting at 4:39 under and HOPE I get in.

People simply need to run faster now. That’s the simplest analysis.

Wish Ironman would do this for races that sell out in less than a day.

Agreed.

Hey, I’m trying to sign up on friday. What information do I need to have ready to complete the registration? Is it a race to finish signing up first to get in?

All you need is your basic personal info, qualifying time, and payment method. I registered right around 10am today and got a submission number around 2005400. I’m assuming that 5400 is either the number of people that had submitted today (in the second wave) or the net number of people that had submitted applications and/or been confirmed as of that point in time. Probably the latter.

In either event, the best way to ensure your entry is to simply run faster. I’m hoping to knock 2’ off my BQ so that I can maintain the same 10’+ standard (assuming that I even care to register next year). Knocking 12’ off would be good insurance, but I don’t think I’ll be in 2:45 shape anytime in the next 12 months.

I was in right at 10 also. Still waiting for confirmation of acceptance into race. Got my confirmation number.

I read online in a Boston newspaper last night that as of Wed PM they thought the field was half filled (+/-9,000 total already entered). May sell out by the weekend. I’m in and confirmed. Registered first thing Monday AM and was conf. # 2000969
