Anyone see this?
I must admit, I find this extremely hard to believe. I thought it was going to say they rode down the side of a mountain, but on a flat road on a recumbent bike?
I probably have no idea what I’m talking about, just thinking aloud.
Agreed, especially since it says it was clocked over a 200m distance. I’m not sure anyone could (or would want to) go that fast downhill. Anyone have more info on this claim?
Well if it was a real bike then we would have a story.
There was an article I saw on this last year ( it’s an annual challenge/event kinda like speed week at the salt flats )…
Here it is: http://www.wired.com/culture/lifestyle/news/2007/03/bikerecord_0330
It’s with a recumbent, fully faired bike.
Aaaah, now I see. They’re basically pedal-powered bobsleds, not “bikes.”

Correct, UCI rules do not apply.
Fastest Drafting speed behind another vehicle (I think; there may be faster one) on flat land is 152 mph set by an Ironman Winner:
Fastest Downhill on mountain bike is about 210km/hr on snow and 172km/hr on land (with a wicked crash):
These folks are crazy
.
Another great article on this:
Actually, Rompelberg did close to 177 mph in 1995.

This is legit. This is the IHPVA world speed challenge. These are fully faired human powered vehicles; not some shlep on a recumdent that we are used to seeing. I was involved with HPV competition as a university student, and we managed to get a fit (but not world caliber) athelete to over 54mph on a flat stretch of road. They had been trying to break the decimach (1/10th the speed of sound at ground level) for 25 years (they finally broke it last year). My hats off to Sam, he has pushed the record for over a decade.
I need one of those bikes for my commute. Would be nice to travel at car speed on a bike.
I find it very interesting, definately got the creative wheels turning. Wondering if I could get myself in shape for a run in one of these, not to mention the fun of designing and building such a vehicle.
