New Bike or Upgrades on Current?

I have been toying with the idea of getting a new ride, possibly the new transition when it comes out. I am also considering the idea of holding onto my current ride, Trek Equinox 11 which is only 2 years old and doing some upgrades. Some of the things that I am considering upgrading to is a set of race wheels with a PT, (808’s or others) new aero bars. I am thinking that the keeping the bike may be the best bet, since I already have a good bike. Bike is all original ultegra and dura ace real derailer, the same as when i got it.
I know that these upgrades will make me faster as a new bike i just that a new bike. I was looking at just race wheels but then I realized that I can get a PT with them for just a little more compared to buying separate.
Any advice or experience with any upgrades, what would you change.

I’m guessing race wheels w/power are the way to go, unless you already have a set of race wheels.

Race wheels with a PT is the uprgade that keeps on giving. Though make sure whatever rear wheel you get you’re willing to train on it.

Are there any draw backs to training on a rear 808?? Also what has anyone upgraded there aero bars on a equinox 11? If so which ones, any pics? I would also like to reduce the weight it up a bit too.

Only real drawback is the risk of damaging it. I don’t know what the roads are like in your area but around where I live they aren’t exactly $2000 wheel type of roads. I still ride my race wheels before races of course but never weeks at a time.

I don’t know what aerobars you have but the vision base bar clip combo is popular. Not to mention Hed’s one piece as well as their new modular clip/basebar combo which is spectacularly light.

Considering how un-true my rear training wheels are on each one of my bikes i would never ride a rear race wheel while training.

I agree about not wanting to train on my race wheel. If you want a PT, look at getting a second hub for your race wheel. I would price out this option against an Ergomo crank and decide which suits you better for price.

I have a PT on my training wheel and on my race wheel, only because I just recently added a crank that I wasn’t too fond of parting with.

I also upgraded to HED aerobars. A very nice set of bars, very aero, and quite light.

Good luck
