New Bike Fit, Worth It?

So just to give you a little info, I bought a Cervelo Dual, size 56 in January of 08. That was my first year in the sport, and when I bought the bike I had only been working out for a little over a month (unless you count beer pong as a sport). I made sure to get a fitting for it, but I knew very little of what was going on, and didn’t really know how to answer the questions. I really couldn’t tell what would have been the most comfortable cause I really didn’t know what was going on.

Since then I have lost about 25-30 lbs, and I have become pretty decent, and have made a few changes to my bike, like dropping the handle bars a few rings (I know I’m not really using the correct bike terms, so don’t ridicule me too much)!

I would love to buy a new bike, but do not have the money right now, or really anytime in the near future. Wondering what everyone thought about getting a new fitting sometime this winter. Do you think that it would make much of a difference, or I should just leave well enough alone?

Yes, by all means get a fit. A fit can change in a couple months, especially with the weight loss (well done!), and getting used to aero, etc.

John

get a fitting…I was in about the same spot you were until I finally went for one last week. Position is much better now. Making incremental changes over time and losing weight can really change things. Even if you are told it is perfect at least you will know that and feel better about it.

I am in the same boat and started the fitting process last week - I have to arrange to get back in and finish it up (maybe next Monday afternoon for 2nd session).

I think it can only help if we’re both not able to afford the new racing machine right now.

Definitely. Most people underestimate the value of a good fit. I think this is easily the best use of money in terms of speed gained. A comfortable, fast fit is worth so much more than any frame or wheelset.
