New Balance shoes on both male and female winners?

I know that all anyone on this site cares about is bike fit, aerodynamics and FTP…

I found it interesting that a shoe company that has very little presence in triathlon happens to sponsor both Kienle and Carfrae.

What are they making those shoes out of? I mean, this must be some space-age technology that made the winners run so fast in their shoes. How long until we all go out and get a pair of New Balance shoes to boost our own running?

Of course I am joking. But, as a total running shoe geek who hasn’t had a pair of New Balance shoes on my feet since grade school I will admit that I am intrigued. I hadn’t really thought about the brand at all until yesterday but now I am considering giving a pair a try… Who knows, I might just run (half) as fast as Mirinda.

I’m not intrigued for a second…have never been impressed by NB footwear. I’ll stick to my Hokas…

I am a running shoe slut. I have Hokas and love 'em but I can’t bring myself to be faithful to any one brand. Closest I came was a couple years of running only in Sauconys. Now I like to have shoes from several different brands and rotate them in and out.

Like I said, I hadn’t thought of buying a pair of NBs in years…

I like the New Balance Minimus shoes, though I’m not sure I could run a marathon in them as they are pretty thin like a racing flat.

New Balance was slightly up in the count. The NB1400 was the clear front runner for the brand yesterday. In fact it wasn’t even close. The 1400 outpaced all other New Balance shoes combined.

I own running shoes from 10 different shoe companies. New Balance is not one of them. Still won’t like any of their shoes, but obviously its pretty cool for them to sponsor both of the winners

Yeah, it’s funny that NB seems to have almost no traction in triathlon. Shame because I think they make some pretty good shoes. Then again Adidas is rarely spoken of in these parts and their shoes have been worn for the last several marathon WRs.

I run long in Hokas, do mid range runs in mizuno wave creations and race in flats.

Back in the day I was a big fan of Gel Magic racers (owned probably 15 pairs), when they stopped making them I went to Mizuno Ronins, this year they stopped making Ronins so I went to my LRS and picked up a pair of NB 1400 flats….Great shoe for me and I am not fast, about a 3:45 or so IM guy.

Having said that it seams the life cycle (production cycle) for a good flat is about 2 years…. ;-(

You are right. Typical racing flats are 2 year life cycle as is maybe a color change. Most of the time at 2 years it’s just an upper change keeping the midsole for another 2 years.

Training shoes are changed at a much faster rate as you know.

I run often (not exclusively) in NB, short, long and trail. I like them, they fit my foot and running style, but they are not going to make me win an IM

If I were a male pro champion I would run in whatever shoe company offered the most $$. NB has a wife enough range that something will work for anyone.

“a shoe company that has very little presence in triathlon”

You apparently have’t seen any pictures from Roth…the were everywhere! They had 3 booths at the expo.

They had flags and banners all over the course:

If only I had bought those Jordans, I’d be in the NBA right now.

I agree completely. Rinny and Sebi were going to win on Saturday no matter what shoes they were wearing. However, if they had both been riding the same bike there would be a 5 page thread about the merits of bike X…

I just had not seen much presence of NB at any prior triathlon. I appreciate the post about Roth. Apparently they do triathlon in countries other than the US of A. Who knew?
