NEW 3T Aerobar to meet UCI aero rules

this is all sooo dumb, lol

what a hassle for the bike component and frame companies to have to redo all this crap and the only people who really want the new bits are non paying customers who are pros =)

Taken a step further, they have to redo their molds (not cheap) and we pay for it. i.e. we pay for stuff that meets rules that we dont follow. Wasnt it Gary Fisher that was talking about super aero stuff for the rest of us?

Anyone have $20k? I’ll write a business plan.

I am building a TT bike over the winter and am about to bite the bullet on this bar.

  1. I WILL be riding a (only one) UCI TT event happening in my backyard (Gatineau, Qc, Canada) in summer 2010 (The race director is in my club) and plan on getting my ass handed to me.
  2. Has anyone actually ridden this bar in a UCI TT?
  3. If so, did the commissaires measure it?
  4. Can anyone give some feedback (fit, adjust-ability, construction quality etc)

I have a set of these. Have been running them since may. I haven’t had anyone measure them even at races that my bike was checked. For most part, the officials know which bars are legal and which aren’t. IF they bother to check them at all. There is a good bit of adgustability in them. Overall I really like them. Better then a much more expensive Oval bar I ran last year.

Thanks for the feedback! That’s just the info I was looking for.

Cheers,
Alex

Link to the new 3T AURA TT bar, a new, carbon-fiber aerobar. If you are interested

AURA shares its basic architecture with the MISTRAL, but it has the same top skin as 3T’s other new-for-2011 aerobar, BREZZA II, and top-mounted extension clamps. This means AURA foregoes the multiple elbow-rest positions of MISTRAL, but is lighter.

AURA comes with S-bend extensions as standard, but owners can swap in any of 3T’s extensions, including the Christian Vande Velde Special Edition ‘deep-S’ bends.

Anyone here know what the saddle/bb limit is for USA cycling events…same as UCI? Last year was my final year of multisport and I want to ensure my TTX fits the bill. It’s 56mm behind the bottom bracket. I also run the V-Flow Max and don’t know if certain saddles need to be compliant.

The new Aura bar looks good but if its anything like other 3T products it probably wont be available for some time !

I have mounted my extensions above the mistral base bar and used an oval riser kit to raise the arm rests!
I Think you could just buy some ventus clamps and use these for a cleaner look but I am having some trouble sourcing some.

Last I knew, USAC was using UCI regs. That means 50mm/5cm saddle tip behind the bb. They also prohibit sawing off the nose of a saddle post production. S0, at 56mm, you’re good.
