Normally don’t post here, and certainly not to draw attention to myself. That said, it’s worth sharing pics of my new ride so that I can single out a Mr. James Haycraft and Inside Out Sports.
Great shop, easy to work with, and they make the whole brick and mortar model actually work. Go visit them - no, they’re actually not paying me to say this.
Anyway, they’ve been instrumental in helping me assemble this beauty. Definitely a labor of love for the better part of a year (size 48 P2’s are about as hard to find as Bigfoot). Worth the wait in my humble opinion. Seen others do something similar before, but not sure there will be another just like this one.
The “beard” requires some modification. The 700c/48cm beard wasn’t available for a while and the fit wasn’t quite perfect on the P2 frame. But otherwise, slap it together.
This is a really impressive mix and match, chapeau. Now that we’ve entered the 3D printing age many of these custom modifications should be readily available on-line. I’m looking forward to being able to order a custom front end fairing-brake cover given frame-specs rather than manufactures trying to accommodate a range of sizes, much like what Swiss-side did for Raelert’s Cube frame.
There’s a 650 P5 fork on Ebay I was thinking of doing the same thing with.
I don’t know if it’s from the older 48cm 650 or the newer 45cm 650 or even if there is a difference.
Yes, the 48cm 700c fork is unique (due to its rake).
The first year or two of P5s had a 48cm with 650c wheels. So the question is there a difference between the older 650c fork (used on the original 48cm) and the newer one used on the current 45cm (that did not exist for the first year of the P5).
We did use the Maguras both front and rear. The only thing I really have left to do is remove the white wheel stickers…still debating though, matte black stickers that HED has or just remove the stickers and don’t replace?
As far as conversion, I’m going to assume you mean from base P2 to what you see in the pics. There’s a component upgrade obviously, but that’s easy to calculate depending on your preference. The fork and small fairing pieces taken from the P5 I don’t remember offhand, but that’s also just a set price and easy to figure out.
The 2 main things impacting cost of conversion will be paint and that stupid 3t Aduro. I had my local car mechanic that I trust implicitly paint everything ($75), but quotes from more traditional bike painting establishments ran $300+. As for the bar…you have to find one first. After that, it depends on whether or not the party actually knows what they have in hand. Price can be anywhere from $125 to $1000+. So, my long answer to your short question - it depends. Just my n=1 experience, the cost was a little over $200 for this part.
