I was browsing on Road Runner Sports today and noticed 3 new Zoot models listed with pics. They have the ship date listed at 1/16. As promised, the notorious heel tab has been lowered in the Tempo and TT. I also noticed that the Tempo 5.0 reads “Ultra Escape” on the heel… possible name change.
Personal opinion: The new Ultra Speed is butt ugly, but to each their own. Check them all out for yourself:
Just a shameless bump on if anyone has information on these new models. The ultra speed 2.0 reminds me of the old school Nike sock racer from the late 80s. I’m trying to decide between a Kruuz 1.5 or one of the Zoot models for my Oly and Half racing shoe.
I do not think they are terrible, they are just going with a trend that seems to be spreading this spring which is , designs and crazy colors. I just got the new Kwicky blades and they are something to consider if you do not love the zoots
Thanks Rapp and ‘ugh’ that no one will produce a slide on shoe similar to the kinvara for short course (sprint/oly)
If you want a slide on with less padding, why not the Hattori? Or you can check out the Inov8 Bare X-Lite 150, which is not a slide, but close enough. Or just wait until 2013. Not really very helpful, that last point, I know…
Looking forward to trying the UltraTT5 - I hope the sizing runs true. I have always been an 11 the Zoot models but the 4.0 version seemed tighter than all previous versions
I bought a pair on closeout on a lark and after a few runs, ordered a second pair. I was concerned there wasn’t enough shoe to support me at 210lbs, but the shoe is perfect.
If they’re taking any critiques, it’s the black pastic thing at the bottom of the laces coming off. A dab of gorilla glue and it was fixed. Other than that, love the shoe.
Yeah, I’ve told them the same thing about that doohicky. Not sure what to call it, but I know what you mean. So they are aware it’s an issue. I followed same as you - a dab of high strength glue. At least, I did until I started running in my new prototype Zoot shoes, which have regular laces. Stay tuned for those…
For all you Tempo fans … no fears, the name “escape” did not make it to production and it will be the Ultra Tempo 5.0, the updated version of the 2011 Tempo 4.0.
