Thank you. I remember sitting in high school when it all happened (grew up on Long Island). My uncle worked on Water Street and made a safe choice on getting off the subway early. He had a long trip back home to Long Beach.
As a little boy I always looked forward to seeing the twin towers when we went to NYC. Was strange not seeing them there, I havn’t been back to see the freedom towers.
Let’s not forget the Pentagon. The section hit was where the Army JAG Corp offices were located. Lost some colleagues. We lost 125 very good men and women in uniform (and civilians) on that fateful day.
Also, never forget the brave men and women on Flight 93 who fought to re-take the plane.
13 years ago I was a SSgt in the Marine Corps stationed in Virginia Beach, newly married, the freshly minted Mrs mck414 unfortunately had a miscarriage two days earlier, I was sitting in the waiting room of the clinic waiting for her while she underwent the clean out procedure (the procedural name escapes me). I was forced to watch the Today show in the lobby and watched the whole thing unfold on TV, my cell phone rang within 5 minutes of the first tower being struck, to report to my unit. I was assigned to an air defense unit and while we were a ways from NYC and DC we turned and burned none-the-less.
I didn’t know anyone personally who perished in the attacks, but know a number guys who were working at the Pentagon that day. Shitty day.

A friend of mine had worked there prior to 9-11 and knew a number of people who were killed. A woman I knew years ago lives in Manhattan not that far from the trade buildings.
I didn’t know anybody there but I’ll never forget that day. I had just turned on my TV to see live the first tower crumbling.
So many heroes that day between the first responders who selflessly went into the towers to help people get out and those on Flight 93. Everything changed that day. Never forget.
I agree with the idea of never forgetting the events of that day, and maybe more importantly, the lessons that have come from those events.
I could do without all the ceremonies, Congressional medals, etc. There comes a point where you have to move forward, stop dwelling in the past. Quite frankly, it seems like many of these memorials are happening mostly because no one wants to be the first group to not hold a ceremony and take heat for it.
Even I find this timing offensive. And I am a straight up ass about religion.
Meh, it’s the internet.
I rarely post in the LR but I see it’s easy to find the resident asshat. I guess he’s got an agenda, is angry, or is just an idiot. Perhaps all three. No matter, the likes of him are everywhere. x1000 on the web.
Fair enough.
He does raise a few good points, about religious people clinging to their ideals on both sides, and the marketing angles. Just bad timing. Or maybe it is great timing, now I am not sure.

Pay no attention to the troll behind the curtain. He’s a self-described militant atheist.
