Nerve damage? (1)

I have been having issues with my glute/hip after a marathon in October. It first started out that my glute felt tight (it didn’t hurt). It was affecting my stride on my runs. Then about a month later after 2 miles or so on the run my leg felt dead (and somewhat numb). I’ve taken over a week off running and the glute tightness has gone away. However, I attempted a run and my lower leg felt weak and then it felt numb. I had some pins and needles feelings in my foot and around my leg. I plan on visiting a sports med doc next week. But I’m wondering what I should bring up. Originally, some of my symptoms were of a labral tear/FAI but now with the numbness, etc I think I have something else going on. I don’t have any back pain or any leg pain.

piriformis syndrome

Thankyou

Make sure and get it checked out. Sciatic nerve issues can come from protruding disc pressure or constriction of the piriformis. I have permanent nerve damage from 2 ruptured discs and suffer from mild foot drop. By the time the discectomy was done the nerve had been compressed too long and a bit of the numbness was permanent. I never had one moment of back pain and it all started with glute tightness, then some uneven hips showed up from muscle tightness and then numbness. It was very insidious in onset and took a long time to get to the point where I realized I was in trouble, but the actual disc rupturing and nerve damage all happened within 72 hours.

Pirifomis fix is easy, disc issues not so much. Just make sure you know what you are dealing with. Good luck.

Get it checked out by a sports physician, and consider all possibilities until you have the correct diagnosis, including myofascial, neural, vascular and even osseous issues. Wrong diagnosis, wrong treatment. Finding the right doc is really key.
