I recently got a QR neoprene seat cover and like it a lot. The ride seems more comfortable. To those who use neoprene covers, do you use them all the time, or just during races…and why?
All the time. Why be uncomfortable?
I read where Peter Reid uses bike shorts with chamois and no cover on most of his training rides. When he uses Tri shorts he uses the cover. This would make sense, since the two ways would result in similar seat heights.
Regarding Peter Reid and different seat heights. . .is there a real difference in seat height between riding in regular bike shorts vs tri shorts? Enought to make you adjust the saddle height?
I can’t imagine it REALLY makes a difference, but you know how the pros are. Their little superstitions and rituals can mean the difference between a good race and a poor race. IMHO, it’s all mental when it comes to stuff like this.
That’s kind of what I was thinking. I asked because Reid wrote about it in an article recently. I know I can’t tell the difference.
I agree about that it’s all mental with this stuff, too. It would freak me out to be moving my seat up or down right before a race.

Amen to that.
“Regarding Peter Reid and different seat heights. . .is there a real difference in seat height between riding in regular bike shorts vs tri shorts? Enought to make you adjust the saddle height?”
What he implied was that, to him, seat with cover and tri shorts was the same as seat with no cover and bike shorts.

Maybe my knees are weird but I notice changes in height as small as 1mm.
Bill,
I use mine all the time. I ride an old school Flite saddle and it works well.

Thanks Onyx and Mark. The neoprene cover provides a noticeably more comfortable ride, I just wondered what others did. I’ll be joining the full-time neoprene rider’s club.
Picked up a QR cover myself a few weeks ago. Nice and comfortable. The only time it comes off is to put in on my MTB for a trail ride.
