Needed: Tips for mounting cadence magnet

I am looking for some advice on the best way to mount the cadence magnet on the crank of my bike. The crank is a FSA Team Issue Carbon, and the problem I’m having is that the back of the crank is hollowed out, and the magnet that came with the computer does not seat nicely in the hollowed out area. The magnet came with the self adhesive backing tape, and right now it is just barely sticking to the crank. I’m only riding on a trainer now, but it would certainly fall off if it was ridden on the roads. I can use a smaller magnet that does fit/seat into the hollowed out area better, but then the magnet is too far away from the sensor to work.

Does anybody out there have a nice, clean solution to this? Any advice/help would be appreciated.

What computer system are you using?

I mounted the Polar sc200 with cadence on my FSA carbon team issue cranks. The magnet had an adheisive backing as well and it also came with some tape that said polar on it. place the magnet and then run a good strip of electrical tape. That should hold it. Mine works great, no probs yet. Also, using a little rubbing etoh to clean the area before putting the mag on!

I used a neodymium magnet slug and stuck it on there with some epoxy. It’s been on there for about 2 years now with no problems.

I use black electrical tape and stick the magnet in the hollow area. Wrap the electrical tape around the crank and you can barely see that it is there.

Let me guess - Cateye cadence sensor magnet right? If that is the case, epoxy works well but should it fail on a ride, you will be seeing zero’s for cadence for the rest of the ride home. Notice that the magnet has a slot cut out for a zip tie - find a small computer zip tie and trim the excess length so that the ratchet for the zip tie is either behind or on the bottom of the crank arm.

My computrainer came with a small circular magnet with a sticky backing that I put on the end of the pedal bolt - the end that shows through the inside of the crank. I kept it on there for my outdoor rides and mounted the cadence transmitter on the chainstay. Would that work? I am sure you could get such a magnet at wherever fine magnets are sold.

My girlfriend got me one of these - perhaps you (or another ST’er) can give me a word of advice. I’m not worried about mounting the magnet, as I have Gossamer cranks which seem plenty smooth for that side of the equation.

I’ve got a Soloist - clearly there isn’t much round tubing going on near the BB. How did you mount the sensor, if you have aero tubing?
