NEED Stretches to Help Get Comfortable in the AERO Position - Neck is stiff

Slowtwitchers:

My neck is killing me. Rode in the Aero position for about 15 mins. off and on…do I just need to get used to it or can I do anything to help the process along?

neck muscles are fairly easy to develop. do some isometric exercises by trying to move your head back, then left, then right then forward while holing it in place (opposing the movement) with your hands. 3 sets of about 30-45 seconds each. twice a day if you can. then do cobra and upward facing dog to help. counter stretch with plow - be conservative and gentle - only go as far as comfortable. http://www.yogajournal.com/index.cfm?ctsrc=tnav
the muscles that hold up the head go most of the way down the back connecting to the spine so don’t just focus on the neck area.

good luck

I had similar problems and I looked at a few pictures and my shoulder were really scrunched up. That caused my neck and back to cramp like crazy. Try relaxing your shoulder when you ride

It is likely not about strengthening the neck muscles. Usually a stem that is 1 cm longer should do the trick. If you said that you can’t last 6 hours, that is one thing…you just need to ride more. If you can’t hold your head up for 15 minutes, the cockpit fit is messed up.

Gilberto, the yoga stretch where you are on your back, feet over your head, knees to your nose or by your ears (basically your weight is on your shoulders, chin on chest) has helped me tremendously with SI joint, tight back and neck. can’t remember, but is it called the plank or the plow?? Anyhow, when I relax and let gravity do the work, it’s solved several issues for me.

Thanks a lot folks…will try some stuff.
