Help!

Last summer I posted looking for some advice on a injury I was having while cycling. So I finally have measured some things and found some startling and not so startling things.

First let me describe the problem:
While riding my bike(mostly my tri bike) I experience a straining/stretching of the Lateral ligaments/tendons starting from my ankle to the terminous in the tibia. After a while this area becomes so painfull that I cannot put weight onto it and when I stop and rest the blood flows back and I have extreme pain!

I have some big meat shims and have worked for the past year and they have helped. I use Carnac shoes and Keywin pedals.

I have managed to mostly eliminate this from my road bike which has 105 non Hollow tech cranks. However on my tri bike which is a 650 with Topline cranks and 56/42 chainrings. I have major issues after 40 miles.

The Q factors are very different. The 105’s have a Q of 146m
Topline’s: 157

Is it as simple as getting some new cranks? or is it leg length discrepencies? Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Corbin

I have always thought that the Q factor was diff

you will need to give more details:
-Are the wedges on the inside (pushing knees out) or outside (pushing knees in)?
-where are your knees in relation to the toptube?

perhaps others on the forum can ask for other relevant details.

The shims are on the inside forcing the foot to lean out. Although I sometimes think I should try the other way, since I feel that the straining is from too much lateral motion.

My knees during pedaling brush the top tube.

thanks,

Corbin

A guy I trust recommended finding a shop with a ‘fit kit’ cleat alignment system. I haven’t made it in there yet, maybe someone here has and can explain in better detail what it does. It was recommended to me to eliminate irritation to my IT band when I ride.
