Need some confirmation; wheelcover on a 60, or just run 90mm?

As TT season begins, I was planning on putting a wheelcover on my Jet 90 rear and a using 90 front. After reading a few posts, it does not appear that a wheelcover will fit a 90mm Jet wheel. I have a set of Jet 60’s and a set of Jet 90’s.
My second thought was to put the cover on the rear 60 as I rarely use it since I’ve started running dual 90’s quite a bit in road races. Then I began reading where the “older” Zipp discs, which the bulge was based on the 404 profile(I think?), was testing slower than the new Sub 9 which is based on the 808 rim.

Knowing that a disc is generally the right choice, do you think it would be more beneficial to run the rear 60 with a cover and the front 90, or dual 90’s?

You answer your own question!
disc in the rear man, of whatever form you can manage.

Run the cover. My advice however is to get wheelbuilder.com custom cut it for you. I cut down a cover by myself years ago for a Hed Jet 60 and despite being careful, it still looked like a homemade effort.

Yeah, I figured as much, but I didn’t know if something might be off by comparing the size of the bulge.

Why not? I just inquired about getting a cover cut from wheelbuilder for a Jet90 about a week ago…no issue.

I just haven’t decided to do that or just make my own yet…

There are a few posts on here over the past year(too lazy to search) saying that anything over the 808 couldn’t be covered because of the curve needed by the cover to attach. I was going to double check with them before I ordered though. Good to know.

Run the cover on the 60 and then you have a choice of what to use on race day. If all is well, use the ‘disc’, if you are concerned about wind, use the 90. IMO, the easiest way to make a wheel cover fit is to use electric tape to attach it, vice the little screw things. Mine bulged less and took about five minutes to install on my FP 60s.

Concerned about wind!? Never!

Thanks for the help guys.

Dibs on your left over 60/90 set!

No way!

I do 99% bike only stuff now and will break out the 90 rear/60 front or dual 60’s from time to time. Never know when you’ll need them!

I raced Cali 70.3 last year with a Reynolds 100 rear wheel with a cover on it from wheelbuilder. I would just call Rich and see what he recommends.
