Need Saddle to prevent ED

I’ve been riding/tri-ing seriously for 4 years and have noticed some problems with ED…don’t know if it is anything that will become serious or if it is, in fact, ED, but since I’m riding on a standard Stelle Italia saddle, I’d like to lower all risk and look for a ergonomic saddle or another saddle that will prevent numbness and potential ED.

Any recommendations by people who might have been in a similar predicament before getting a new saddle?
Thanks.

I’m first to reply! I love my ISM Adamo saddle, and since it never touches the pirinium area, no more worries of ED. It takes a few rides to get used to it, but it works for a lot of us in the Aero position who found the traditional saddle a sore choice.

I second Faust’s recommendation. I had your old saddle, which is stock equipment on my '07 Dual, and it was the
most painful POS I have ever ridden on. I switched to the Adamo, and could ride naked with no discomfort if I wanted
to just like the girl in their ads, but she has a much nicer looking ass compared to mine. If you check out the pics I
posted from Lifetime on Hector’s thread, you will know what I am talking about.

Also consider the selle smp saddles as well

I have a Fizik Arione - no issues. I did for a while earlier this year when I was riding PCs exclusively.

We’ll see the comparison of her shapely butt to yours? Why would anyone want to see that comparison when we can open a tri mag and see her butt without subjecting ourselves to your butt?

I have the Adamo Race and like it. No ED problems, well there was that one time when I had too much to drink and nothin’ was doin’ down there but the next morning everything was back to normal. I saw the other day they have a return policy so I can’t figure out why people wouldn’t try it out.

…the perennial area…

This is the best typo I have seen on ST in a couple of years. I think you may have meant “perineal”, but regardless, I think we have a new euphemism here. Awesome!

hah, fixed that. I use Spellbound, a firefox extension that obviously led me to the wrong anatomical part.

I hear the Adamo is for those who just can’t get any other saddle to work. I had pretty bad numbness for a while and it even led me to some drastic position/fit measures. I was tilting my seat down, which led to slipping, I was riding with the seat set way back…it was difficult to get the right fit. I chucked the SI TransAm and bought a tri specific saddle, had my fit checked and I was good to go.

Check your seat position (fore-aft, rotation left or right - .5 degree can really help, seat height from the BB - you could be riding too high) and riding style (on the nose, on mid saddle, on the back.) This may be moot as your problems have been going on for 4 years, if I read your post correctly.

Specialized Alias is pretty good too. I wrote up a review here: http://www.discursive.net/226/2007/05/specialized_alias_bg_saddle_1.html

Who is this Ed?

I just got the new Cialis Tri Gel – it rocks. I could go all night and into the next day!

Now, if anyone knows a post workout recovery drink that helps with priapism…

I use this saddle from Colorado Cyclist.

I really like it, and at $49 it is hard to beat the price. Prior to this I used various models of Selle Italia Flite style saddles. If you ever used and liked Flite’s, then I think this will be a good choice.

I swore there would be more jokes…why couldn’t you guys rise to the occasion?

specialized toupe is great

That’s Mr. ED to you.

i hear a lot of good things about the Blackwell Flow saddle

Using PowerCranks can wilt your willy?

This might be taking this slightly off on a tangent, but not completely. Has anyone here had cycling-induced ED and recovered from it to be able to resume a reasonably decent volume of riding? Or even any riding at all?

After 20+ years riding and 7 years racing, I had my bike refit last winter due to some recurring leg problems. The fitter raised the saddle 1.5 cm and instructed me to rotate my pelvis forward, which I started doing (I’d heard this advice before and never focused on implementing it). While the position felt powerful and felt good for my leg, it caused some numbness that I unfortunately ignored and ultimately led to ED. After a few weeks off the bike, things felt normal and I tried again, lowering my saddle and putting a saddle with a large cutout on. After only a few rides this set my progress back significantly. I’ve been off the bike for almost 2 months now and while I can get blood flow going when “needed,” things are definitely not the same down there in terms of blood flow and nerve function. What’s most disconcerting is that now any saddle, even the completely noseless two-pad types, seem to cut blood flow off pretty quickly. Bottom line seems to be that I caused quite a bit of damage down there.

I am seeing a specialized clinic in August to get things tested out to see what damage I caused, but I’m wondering if anyone here has been in a similar situation and recovered, and if so how long it took, what you did to resolve it, how things are working now, etc. Feel free to PM me if you want.

Going back to the particular question: I put the Adamo on my TT bike early on when I was first thinking of getting back on the bike and it seemed awesome. Unfortunately I put the Selle SMP on my road bike and I believe I picked one that was too narrow plus positioned it poorly so my sitbones weren’t really supported. That was a big mistake.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.
