Need more help in Toronto

Hello again, to all who helped me before. I have finally arrived to the GTA. I did end up getting a place in the Y&E area. I have a fairly nice 2BR apt, for WAY too much $$ but I guess that’s what happens when you move to Toronto. So I had a couple more questions about where people work out. Gyms? Pools? Any groups I should definitely join to meet people? I am going to get really bored here soon unless I get out of the apt!! Thanks!!

Gyms - The Dunfield Club (on Eglinton at Dunfield)

Pools - North Toronto Memorial CC (on Eglinton, west of Duplex, usually Tues & Thurs nights)
.

Gyms - I’m a Goodlife member. it’s reasonable, your membership can be used at any of them, so you can work out close to home, work, etc. Closest one to Y&E is Yonge and St. Clair, though I believe one is opening at Davisville and Mt. Pleasant.

Pools - I echo the NTCC comment, it’s 2 blocks from Yonge and Eg, and a great 25M pool. Alternatively, there’s a decent Master’s group that swims out of the Leaside pool (about 5 minutes drive from Yonge/Eg) Tuesday/Thursday nights. Unlike other Master’s groups in the city, it’s cheap, no waiting lists, and fairly small. Everyone’s really nice, as well. Unfortunately, it’s going on hiatus for October/November/December, as the pool is shutting for repairs.

Groups - The infamous donut ride (do a search) leaves from Eglinton and Laird at 8:55 Saturday/Sunday mornings. No membership, no rules, no paceline, pretty much anarchy on wheels, but a lot of fun. There’s also a Toronto Triathlon club that may or may not be in the midst of forming.

Feel free to PM me, as I also live at Yonge and Eg.

Cheers.

Here’s a link to the public swimming schedule for central Toronto. You can get the other areas of Toronto off the Toronto Parks and Rec website. It gives you the swim times for every pool in the city. There are at least 5 city pools within 5 miles of where I live and I’m sure there are even more close to you. The swims are either free or $2.00/swim. http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/parks/torontofun/2006/south/S_Swimming.pdf

I have also just joined the Toronto Bicycling Network. Check them out at http://www.tbn.on.ca/ I haven’t ridden with them yet, but I’m hoping to join the Wednesday and Sunday morning rides.

Welcome to Toronto!

Dawn

Not much to add beyond “welcome.” it’s a great city and you’re just in time for celebrity-spotting at the Film Festival.

Oh - try the masters group at the St Lawrence CC. Lot’s triathletes there and a friendly bunch.

Damn - just found out last night the NTCC pool is closed for pretty much all September (5th-23rd), so scratch that suggestion for the meantime.

Weird timing, as my last tri was this past weekend. Who needs swimming anyways.
