I need help with non-training hydration. I don’t care for beer while at home and used to enjoy a few whisky (or even whiskey) and waters at night but lately I’ve grown tired of this. Can anyone suggest a good and simple drink? Don’t like mixing with coke or even diet coke and I don’t like sweet drinks like 7&7. I am not married to whiskey but I don’t care for rum and don’t want to sip tequila.
I do like red wine. Sometimes i want something a little stronger and more bite, but I know there are a lot of different excellent wine variations Thank you
If you want something you can drink neat and isn’t sweet, then keep a good bottle of vodka in the freezer. The bison grass vodka (e.g. Zubrowka) may suit you as it’s quite dry.
Thanks. I do love GnT but after a few the sweetness of the tonic gets to me. I am know I am being picky… the bison grass sounds good and I think I’ll check out the variations of bourbon too.
There are a lot of good ways to make martinis, if that sounds good to you. I like both gin and vodka. They did a taste test of different gins a few years ago in the NYTimes, and Gordon’s got best value and was ranked as high as many of the premium brands. I get it for $17 for a 1.75 liter bottle. Mix it with a little extra dry vermouth and serve straight up in a chilled glass with olives. Sometimes I use blue cheese-stuffed olives.
And since you are in Texas, margaritas are a good choice. For the less sweet version, get coin style.
Yep, I think it was slowman who gave me a great recipe for the margarita -
1 part fresh squeezed lime juice
1 part tequila
1 part triple sec
shake over ice
tastes nothing like the sickeningly sweet blender version you get at a restaurant
I LIKE THIS! I have a friend who is a distributor of dulce vida tequila and they also have the agave honey that can be used in place of triple sec. Maybe I’ll work this in the mix. Thanks all for the input. Whiskey has been a staple but I’ve grown tired of it.
Some aged rums are delicious and as complex as good scotches.
My other favorite is tawny port. Cheap brands can be overly sweet but the best are very smooth. I had an Aussie one called Seppetsfield that I’ve only found once but which is really exceptional.
